I went 'other' just cause I've always thought a heavy rock sound mixed with Notorious-era horns would be fantastic. Like what Aerosmith did in the late 80's. This is a fitting description of the Power Station doncha' think? Heavy rock featuring zip-gun guitars. bass non-stop and brassy horns, booby-trap durms - really the Power Station set a tone and sound that many acts copied since SLIH hit the airwaves...

I think it was cause I wanted even more guitar, and didn't really get it. Thus my going with Aerosmith - they let the guitars wail. But you're right, a Power Station sound is just as accurate a description.

It features Andy playing on his Black Gibson guitar - that album rocks!

I have it, but honestly it's been years since I last listened to it - guess I should go pull it out again, huh?!

as to my choice? Well I'd be happy with ANY of the 7 styles/directions -- i avoided The Killers and Franz coz in away that's basically simailar to DDs work anyway s they were not used as examples, particularly as they were kind of the direction the Reportage album was in -- i also would like to suggest some 'other ' choices: Rock with a dark feel electronic feel like Smashing Pumpkins - Ava Adore -- uk.youtube.com/watch?v=HYnihTlVuzQor a clubby feel but still with a rock vibe like Perfecto/Oakenfold's production (here mixing U2): uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YBxmIe_05W0Electro pop - like this track by the Sugababes: uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Tr8F1Uborls

in the end i've voted for no.4 - New Young Pony Club - think Coolbarn said it best in their posting about why!
This is EXACTLY the style I would love for Duran to take next album. Much like their first two albums when the boys were at the peak of their songwriting powers we have a cool bassline leading the song, funky guitar riffs, atmosperhic keyboards, appropriate drumming, a catchy melody (noticeably absent on RCM), and very importantly SPACE AND SIMPLICITY. There's not a million sounds and layers going all on at once and every instrumentalist gets a chance to be heard. The song is just so simple but it works.
Would love for the guys to recapture that musical magic in the 2000s

I'd like to hear some more stuff like "Nite Runner", "Skin Divers", and "Tempted" come out. And some acoustic stuff too.

I think that since they had an overwhelming positive feedback from the Ronson gig, then they should go with the momentum and do a record with him.
Hey he's a child of the 80s and is a grat producer--so he appreciates DD and their musical ability!

True, but if Sony drops them there's no way they'll be able to afford Ronson. Unless he takes them on pro bono, of course...:-)

Unless he takes them on pro bono, of course...:-) Maybe I live in a dream world where money isn't the root of all actions (fat chance ) but wouldn't you think if Duran REALLY WERE idols of Ronson's that he would do whatever it takes to work with them? I'm sure Mark isn't short of a quid (and neither are the Duran guys for that matter) so personally I would hope that money would NOT be the decisive factor for this collaboration to go ahead if that's what both parties want.
