I've never had a problem with Des Barres. He always came across as having a good rock 'n roll attitude. From the bootlegs I have heard from this tour he seemed to work the crowd well.

Am I the only one that thinks Des Barres is an awful singer, there must have surely been better singers around.... No, you're not the only one. He sucked!

Andy is the man, wonder what else he will unearth in his one man crusade to give something back. Hope the others are noticing, really is time that archive of Nick's was put out there, we'll all be dead before it sees light of day!

Anyone have any stories to share about the Power Station 1985 summer tour? Outside of my having been at the "Janitor Nick Rhodes" show, my most lasting memory of the show was how a friend and I pulled it all together just over an hour before the curtain rose. We decided last minute to go, jumped on a bus at Port Authority and headed to the Meadowlands with no tickets. We found a scalper who was in a hurry and picked up a pair of seats right around the middle of the floor. On our way in we ran into two girls we'd dated (long, dumb high school story) and found we had much better seats than they did. Hooray! As I said earlier in the thread, the band (Andy, John and Tony) was on fire. DesBarres kind of ruined it for me largely because his demeanor, his wardrobe and (most importantly) his voice were nothing like Robert Palmer's. I just felt Palmer's soulful sophistication was a better fit for the music, and I missed it in a live setting.

That's a great story, Stup. Thanks for sharing. How did the crowd react to the janitor incident?

Good interview too, did Robert pull out because he was concerned about Riptide LP? He sounded well up for it on the interview. Amazing support list too, Spandau, Go West and Paul Young - anyone have recollections of whether they were any good?
