THE POWERSTATION - 1985: Live in Houston & Rare Interview with 4 Original members: bit.ly/aFj8MW
I have posted an Interview from 1985 with the original line up of Powerstation - Its been 25 years since this all happened, & its still one of my favourite pieces of work. The interview is when Robert Palmer was onboard with the tour, which wasn't for to long - Strange as it may seem, we all sound amazingly lucid on the tape, so it must have been a 1-off - what happened after that is still a bit of a mystery!!!
Robert didn't do the tour, but we figured we should continue with a different singer, so as not to disappoint our fans - & as I recall we had f___ all to do at that time anyway as neither of us were into sailing...
As it was a one-off stour, there were no rules except be there at 9pm for the show - additionally we rented the biggest plane we could find, a Boeing 737, fitted with a comfortable 22 seats, a few beds & enough toilets to never have to stand in line.
There are also three tracks from the show uploaded below, which don't sound to bad considering the health hazard we were at the time, although I have to admit that after Live Aid, which was also on our itinerary, I did have a non-toxic period thanks to my dear old friend Michael Desbarres, the first man I ever encountered who could actually abstain from the sauce & still have a shit load of frollicks.
Thanks for the memories... Oh yes, there are plenty of them & more than likely a few I have yet to untangle.
The line-up was:
Tony Thompson - Drums
Andy Taylor - Guitar & Vox
John Taylor - Bass
Michael Desbarres - L.Vox
Curtis King & Philip Balou - B. Vox
Frank Elmo - Saxophone
Chuck Kentis - Keyboards
Gary Wallace - Percussion
And that is the end of that... Except there is some documentary footage still lost in a vault - if it ever surfaced, god help us all.
