my membership lapsed several years ago- I joined only for ticket pre-sales- think that's how I got the Forum gig. I think I also did the RCM show through that as well
I disagree with the VIP thing- we were 2 rows behid the VIP tickets (all of 6 feet) at RCM Lyceum and the O2 shows- for a fraction of the cost- it's a complete rip-off and I refuse to buy them (for anyone). I don't see DD concert tickets being particularly hard to get in the future so see little reason to rejoin
As for the M&G's- not interested. I did win a signed RCM cd from them though- which was nice
the only site I'm a member of is U2.com- they do excellent fan pre-sales and you get a cd of music every year

Although before I had the pleasure to meet the band; to me their " reunion " was a big celebration and that tempted me to get from a VIP ticket along with a meet & greet session, thankfully which turned out to be a great one! ( along with Nick's birthday and all that ).
So, I wanted to treat myself and it was worth it for all the excitment. But that never stopped me thinking; if a fan wants to buy a VIP concert ticket that musn't be done via a paid website. Also It's not a top secret to be a band so, I still find it posting on a paid " music " forum quite wierd and extravagant! I know whether we like it or not, it's an income for some people.. But to tell the truth, to me the idea is not really cool in general. We buy their albums, go to their shows etc. But to share our thoughts about Duran Duran or join a contest by paying is not on!..
I didn't renew my membership this year and I'm not sure if I do it again. Last year's poster design contest was " my cup of tea " contest and my membership was still valid so, I joined it and became a finalist. Also posted on the forum for once ( ! ) to say thank you for the nice comments. Still, I really wish all those things were simply done only on duranduran.com!
If one is so curious to become a member, maybe he/she could try it for once and see whether it's worth it or not. You know, you could enjoy the things which I might not enjoy or it could be the opposite.

i'll be cheeky and go point by point. my comments are italicised. - Access to Presale Tickets sure, technically you do get access- VIP Ticket Packages yep- Member Only Meet and Greets good luck with that one- Video, Photo, Written Content if you consider shit like simon's reader or nick vaguely talking about possibly recording but not daring to confirm ANYTHING content- Insider Info dare i say other sites have it first, if not it'll be all over the internet moments later- Tour Access huh??- FAN2FAN Features whoopdie f___ing doo- Find out what Members are saying! the forums are dead so...noEXCLUSIVE CONTENT Photos,Video, and MORE! already covered this one, it's a waste. simon and nick like to yank our chains, john can sometimes be useful, but roger's always a doll-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TOURING Access to presale tickets, special ticket packages, discounted hotel rates, tour and show updates, set lists, and road diaries! again, you do get access to presale tickets but they sell out quickly and aren't always the best seats in the house. i've rarely seen discounted hotel rates, maybe i just haven't paid attention? they did get me a good rate in 06 when i saw them at voodoo fest, i will admit.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INSIDER INFO Backstage candid photos and footage, insider news on shows or other exciting happenings, email and SMS alerts sent to you as soon as band news breaks, and all sorts of special promotions! no.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MEMBER ONLY Meet & Greets, autographed merchandise, flyaway packages (flights, hotels, and tickets to the show!), listening parties, and more! you will not get to do a meet and greet or get autographed merchandise. the same handful of people seem to get picked for this stuff, it's amazing. i've been a member for over six years and haven't gotten squat. it's not sour grapes on my part, i've heard this from lots of members.all in all i think it's a waste of money. if you really want the presales, i suggest becoming a member as soon as a release date is announced for the album so you can get in for the presale. otherwise, just stick with general sales. i will say the times i've been able to actually buy presale tickets i lucked out and got decent seats. one show had mediocre seats that i could've bought from ticketmaster, one was a vip package, the other was presales that were decent (these were all the same year though so i did at least get value for the membership that year). i got totally shut out in 08 when they toured, still a little pissed about that but i still got good seats from stubhub. as someone who really has no desire to meet the band (i wouldn't turn it down but i won't go out of my way to try, it's just a personal thing about not wanting any idols of mine to be jerks and ruin it, lol) the meet and greet aspect has never appealed, i did vip once for the seats. what would make it worth for me is some kind of tangible thing to get in return, especially (or at the very least) on years where they do nothing! years where there is no tour so there's so much of the membership's perks that can't be used. it goes back to other threads where it's been mentioned they could throw us some bone. i wouldn't care what, even if it was a collection of crappy remixes i hate, just so i at least felt like i got something for my money this year or any year where they don't tour. the only site I'm a member of is U2.com- they do excellent fan pre-sales and you get a cd of music every year that's exactly who i was thinking of when i said what i did above. i've been a u2.com subscriber on-and-off since 97, but they're good to their fans. i just miss the old days of fan clubs. you got a monthly newsletter with photos of them in the studio or in concert, a badge, and a christmas record. now it's just e-mails and letters on a computer monitor. it now costs them virtually nothing to keep up their end of the bargain but the cost of membership sure isn't $10 anymore. unless something happens and they get their shit together (lol i know), i'm not renewing next year - after all the years i've paid for a membership when they haven't toured i figure i might as well wait another year to get a freaking presale. and yes like i said i am a member at ddm, even use the same login sir fireskye

If you join the Adam Lambert fan club, for $10 you get a membership badge, a welcome letter (from Adam himself!!!), and access to the (very strictly controlled) forums, chats, and other areas of the official website. If you upgrade to $30, you get all that plus...a T shirt. Whoop-de-doo. Welcome letter? "Official Membership Card" It's all so...Shaun Cassidy. I passed.

I don't think the official membership details in the initial post are incorrect, but they are a bit vague and disingenuous. As other people have pointed out, what you wind up getting doesn't really amount to very much, though how disappointed you are by that probably depends upon your expectations going in. I let my membership lapse last year, but I still had forum access until three or four months ago. I don't have any plans on signing up again, though maybe I'll feel differently when tour dates start rolling out. I only bought tickets through DDM a few times, with one being the general admission fan show. I think I maybe bought the tickets I had for the 2006 Chicago show through DDM, and those were on the floor, though not super close. I believe the third show was one which followed a week or two later in Albany (NY), and those seats were pretty terrific. I think I also bought my tickets to one of the Broadway shows on the Red Carpet Massacre tour through DDM, but that was one of the shows that was canceled. I put my refund toward a new iPod, and the tickets I bought for the other two shows on that tour were purchased elsewhere. The DDM forum is definitely a different animal than this one, though I enjoyed posting there and met a few really cool people I consider good friends. As I think was pointed out in another thread recently, this ProBoards forum really is more inclined to engage in actual discussions about the music. Not that they don't do that over at DDM, but it seems to happen more frequently here. WORD. *waves to stupe*
