For the first time in a while I listened to Violence of Summer. I like it more now than when it was first released. I'll even go as far as saying that I like it better than AYNIN (the song)

liberty probably their most underrated album
Some of the songs are among Duran Durans best ever and it is the last album where the guitar played a major Role
Top songs;
"Serious" – 4:21 "My Antarctica" – 5:0
Good:
"First Impression" – 5:28 "Read My Lips" – 4:30

I always liked "Violence of Summer" sounds upbeat and different! I have a lot of live bootlegs from the 90's , and now since the 2000's , Duran's live set sounds almost a rip from the CD version with the exception of Simon's voice (sounds cooler now than in the early 80's i.m.o)....so if you want to hear the usual "hits collection" just go the mainstream concerts of grab a good quality live bootleg and that would be it really. My only argument is that fan get together to make this happen, the set list should be different from the typical shows

Go and wash your mouth out Oakey!! Yeah, that's weird, because normally Oakey makes a lot of sense. But calling Violence Of Summer one of the worst songs ever recorded by a pop group gives Australians a bad name! And that's normally my job. Or Shane Watson's Maybe it helps that I am not an Aussie, just living down under for the moment. But okay, you have a point; there are worse songs I can think of that have been recorded by any artist, but VoS is the worst song by Duran imho. Its CD-single was also the last Duran item I bought back in the day, after that I laid my fandom which started in 1986 to rest (did not even buy the Liberty album). After TWA came out, I started to regain interest in the band again (I think I taped that album, not even purchased the CD), but that was shortlived. Not until the end of the 1990s did I return to the band in full, effectively re-buying all vinyl and CD item I had sold in 1990

I thought all those Violence Of Summer remixes were disappointingly craptacular, but the song itself was a fun, catchy piece of bubblegum. Certainly My Antarctica was a better song and should have been the lead single, but in terms of instant likeability I think VOS was a decent enough single choice. So Violence Of Summer is great and actually underrated if anything, but each to his own of course

I like the remixes that were released, but all 6 of them sound almost exactly the same! I love the 12" remix demo that was similar to a Night Version. Maybe someday that will get released.

I like VOS fine. Not their best, but certainly not their worst. The only objection I have towards the song is that it was a sad and obvious attempt to try and cash in on "Love Shack" by making their interpretation of that same 60s dance pop sound (or whatever it is). Worse still, it was two years after Love Shack, so it only made DD seem like they were desperately out of step with current pop.

Violence Of Summer is good musically, but the lyrics are really dodgy! The concept of violence doesn't associate well with summer, and makes for a confusing concept that would never appeal to mainstream audiences. And China-na is a pretty bad refrain. The song could have used a stronger chorus musically to help it lift off... not a great single!
