Forget hits. It isn't going to happen. Focus on album sales, concert tickets, and perhaps licensing. I agree. The last chance Duran had of making an impact old-school was with Astronaut; the songs and album were okay, but not good enough to really take advantage of the momentum of the successful tour and reunion news. I think the only way a Duran Duran song will take off from now on will purely be accident. It will be pure, dumb luck that a Duran track will be heard and resonate with the public, and the more the band want for hits probably the less chance they will get them. We saw that with Timbabland and Timberflake, and we could very well see it with Paper Gods and all its special guest artists as well. But while I don't think that Paper Gods and its tracks are going to take the world by storm, as long as Duran's concerts continue to sell well we have a successful band. And considering how great Duran are live, and how most people really enjoy the night and can't wait to go back, I can't see a major decline in ticket sales coming any time soon.

Just three paragraphs. Your fingers must be sore.

This is so messed up its no joke.
I am really happy and yet saddened by the very long list of magazine articles which dew linked to above. If the single was riding in the charts right now, like Serious or even I Dont Want Your Love, and had 'exposure', then this would be the time to really hammer that home. But the Single for PO is more like a leak for fans than an actual single, and has been handled like 'A Has-been band which makes old-timer music', rather than being on the pulse. Its also about 8 weeks until they release the album; so either they are starting their press run early, or its just too far ahead of the album to do much in the way of anticipation. I feel this is a limbo period but perhaps not close enough to a release to really start flooding the media. I hope they continue to break the magazines in the next 8 weeks, and the 8 weeks which follow the release, but right now I'm thinking they are squeezing DD in before the real big artists like Jay-Z (spit!), and Rhianna <cough, who?> type artists - who are more important to the kiddies who buy those advert mags. I havent bought a mag since they appeared in Record Collector and Q magazine back in the 90's, and I threw out those very mags last month.
As someone said above, the Softly Softly approach is not working and is just like saying they dont care. And they dont. DD really need to contact their millions of fans directly and promote exclusives to get them really excited. Trying to get the new crowd from Vogue readers is classy, but perhaps 'Sport Week (Italy)' and the 'Morning Post (Germany)' are a bit weak, especially so far ahead (or after) a release.
I'd say licensing (as stopdead said), is the only way DD will ever get a break into the mainstream at this rate.

Billie Ray Martin describes PO as 'awful' in Classic Pop magazine single review. Well she is in the minority...that's why critics are critics--they can't do anything but critique someone--for every 20 saying song is good.. you will get one bashing it-wants to stand out from the rest..lol Her music is pathetic.she is sampling..take a listen...repetive...Zzzzzzzzzzz What has she done since the 90's....at least our guys are still making music!!
