Hello everyone! I've always liked Tom McClintock's duran duran discography in paper format, but it hasn't been updated since 2009. Today I got the master file from Tom , and I want to update it in the winter times here in Norway :-). It's a lot of work, so I was hoping for help from you! I know we talked about it for some years ago, but I don't exactly remember. So my first question is, do you know about any errors in the discography from 2009? Please post here, or send me a message. Kind regards, durandurannorway

This is great news!
To answer your question, unfortunately yes a lot of incorrect data and loads of pressings missing. I will take a bit of time to think how to inform you about additional info.
Great this list will be revived!!

Personally i think the thing would gain from having any additions/removals/clarifications being openly crowdsourced (maybe a thread on here), so that we're hopefully not adding/creating errors to it.
Also having rules as to what's listed & what's not would be good.
So, for example, Tom obviously made the decision to only list the major releases, rather than detailing every different pressing & alt label & whatnot from each country, which gave the thing far more clarity... ...& that was a useful rule to know.

Will keep it in the same major releases as Tom did, but there is a lot of releases to add since it not have been updated for 6 years!

Too bad if it only will contain major releases. Then it is of no use to me as a collector. :-(

Then it is of no use to me as a collector. :-( Without the thing becoming a completely unwieldy list, the only way around that that i can envisage is to give the thing it's own site... ...where, you have that as a main page, & then each thing is hyperlinked to a child-page where the variants are pictured. it'd be a hell of a lot of work to do & relies on people who have things spending time scanning & whatnot; though, if it were done well, it'd be much more useful than the wiki or discogs or whatever. [Edit] Or, as an alt, something like madonnadiscography.pl/index might work... Though that takes it away from being a list as such.

Totally agree. But i am positive minded towards a complete list, or at least as complete as possible. I built my own database in MusicCollector of collectorz.com. So i know how much time and effort it takes. I entered every possible vinyl and cd release of Duran and Arcadia. Although it seems i let the cds slip away a bit. I actually used Tom's list as basis and noticed that many pressings were missing. If you go for a site like discogs where anyone can alter... Not sure if that is a good idea as then you're dealing with several different mindsets and views on releases. But Lars-Erik, should you have questions then don't hesitate to ask! To start it might be an idea to focus on one title or era a time and ask/check which versions are not mentioned.

To start it might be an idea to focus on one title or era a time and ask/check which versions are not mentioned. That then means needing a format working out first that'll cover what's wanted to be shown & is scalable to the amount of stuff that'd need adding if the aim were to make it comprehensive...
(that's why i used the Madonna thing as a potential model - not that i'm a fan of hers, but came across it when i was looking for something else some months back &, whilst there's some aesthetic things i wouldn't do, it's a pretty decent way of collating info imho)
...plus someone who's both prepared to own the job of running the thing & has the time to do so.
