I could be completely wrong here but didn't the Rio video have an animated aeroplane flying past at one point? I've tried to find footage on YouTube but it doesn't appear to exist anymore. Mmmmm... Well the possible problems would be that the usual version of Rio already has the huge 'animated' red ball... …& with the 1 track emi promo i have having a timecode date of the 15th of August... ...so, it would seem a bit weird to have given info to the music press late in 82 explicitly referencing animation in the future UOTS video release for just the addition of the plane. Yeah, i'm not saying that you're wrong & it could have been part of what was being planned - just thinking aloud as i'd not thought of 'animation' in that sense tbh.

I agree it'd be a nice item to re-issue, particularly since the running order and transitions between videos make it more interesting then just a collection of videos. A super-deluxe version with interviews and behind the scenes footage would get my attention. The packaging opportunities are good, particularly if it was a 12" x 12" box, and included a book with nice still photographs from video outtakes, and interviews. I've never actually watched the laserdisc version, but own a USA-market copy. I own and have watched the VHS version MANY times! Even a HD streaming version would be great, as I'd enjoying seeing it again in it's entirety. Wikipedia tells me; Has anyone seen the Capacitance Electronic Disc version? That seems like an ultra-rare collectible. Attachment DeletedThe original Video Album is not available on DVD or BluRay. I’ve been watching the Rio Classic Album film, and there’s quite a bit of behind the scenes film from the videos made in Sri Lanka. Wouldn’t it be great if they reissued the Video Album with behind the scenes extras and a blooper reel? How do we get the Band to make this? Who owns the rights to it? Why hasn't it been released on DVD already? Does anyone know?

Wikipedia tells me; Has anyone seen the Capacitance Electronic Disc version? That seems like an ultra-rare collectible. The CED version is normally really cheap on eBay & there's typically a couple of copies available - at least in the UK... ...just do a search for - Duran CED
& there's also the Japanese VHD - which, whilst also isn't hard to come by, is usually a couple of times the price of the CED...
...though it & DOTV are typically the cheapest of the VHDs - with SRTR being by far the most expensive the very rare time one comes up for sale.
As the contents are the same no matter the format (& i don't think any of us are going to try & play a CED or VHD), if you're looking for pretty items for the collection then the CED looks plasticky & cheap imho...
...whereas, with the proper cardboard sleeves & alt layout due to the sizing (vs the square 12" for the LDs or the video inlay format or...) i really do like the VHDs as visual items.

Are you sure about that. I bought one a few months ago, and was going to look into it further as I have a CED player. (I got the US NTSC version): www.discogs.com/Duran-Duran-Duran-Duran/release/11126790It also has the Planet Earth (Medley) on it: My CED player isn't working, so i couldn't check to see what it was. Also, when I asked the seller, they didn't know either. It's still a mystery (I posted this in the collectors section when I had it). I figure someone out there (anyone out there) would know. later -1

(bar any variance in pre-'film' codes & titles of course)
Now, i believe that it's fairly clear was that it wasn't a day one release in the UK - since, along with the press release only talking about VHS & Betamax versions... ...it's at a mid-point in the ratings.
So, the original VHS & small box Beta releases were unrated...
...the (later) Laserdisc was unrated...
...the CED then has a formal 15 rating printed on the back - which i don't believe any other UK version has...
…& i then have a later large box Beta version where formal 18 rating stickers were added to the spine & back of the inlay, prior to sale.
(which is the rating which then carried over into Decade & Greatest in the UK)
[NB i could probably find the original article with loads of hunting, but the gist of how it became rated was a complaint made to WH Smith (& one of the tabloids) by the mother of a teenage girl who was horrified at the disgusting nature of the thing.]
Anyway, beyond the rating & a bit of company info, the labels for the UK & US CEDs are the same - so, unless i was given duff info, i believe that it's an error that crept in when redesigning the overall layout for the CED...
...however, whether it's literally a typo or whether there was some much earlier point where it wasn't decided that the whole thing would be a medley (as there's cross over between the videos of course), i wouldn't like to guess.

i have the US laserdisc, and i guess if i get the times, it would be easy to compare. but no ones listed the times either. there were MTV versions of some of the videos : lonely in your nighmare was different and they still haven't put the alternate version of careless memories out, so there might have been other early or different mixes or versions used on some of the collections. later -1

It would be fun to see many of these vintage music videos in HD quality but there are quite a few obstacles working against it happening. Because the outlet for these videos was television (rather than a cinema) I would hazard a guess that most of the final edits were archived/mastered on broadcast video tape and the original film elements were lost/discarded/not looked after. Tracking down the original film, cleaning it up, scanning it, re-editing would be time consuming and costly. The market interest is simply too small to undertake it.
Who's going to head up this project? Nick? Right after he gets Medazzaland and Pop Trash out on vinyl. "Now where were those masters...oh look! TV Mania! Thought I'd lost this!" 🙄
