That is so bizarre and kinda random as to which songs seem to be getting more streams. I wonder if it's mostly still just fans that dig up these more obscure songs and then decide like americanscientist, that it still slaps and then keep playing it. Is it a fan who loves the singles and goes to concerts but doesn't know anything beyond the big hits, then stumbles across a hidden gem? Is it someone who used to like them in the beginning or as a kid but just lost interest after a while but is now rediscovering them and their back catalogue? Or is it someone who doesn't know anything about the band and just discovered these songs by pure chance? Very weird.

Anything outside of that is being played by the proper fans and I think most long whethered fans skip the cliche singles. I'll often exclusively listen to the deep cuts, not because I like the songs off Greatest any less, but I just rarely feel like listening to them. Songs like I Believe/All I Need To Know, Before the Rain, Paper Gods, Winter Marches On and Point of No Return are usually on my high rotation despite whatever else I may be into year on year.

Also, the top 10 is driven by playlists as the 80s and 90s curated playlists have a lot of those Top 10 DD tracks. HLTW, Rio, SAP and GOF are 80s playlist standbys while the 90s playlists have OW and CU on them. Invisible's organic growth is all the more fascinating and makes the song DD's first proper streaming era hit. It is even on a new Spotify playlist called big on the internet which has 3.8MM followers.
I am thrilled to see gems like Matter of Feeling and Too Late Marlene gets so many spins, regardless of whether it is due to TikTok teens getting their first crack at DD or day one MTV generation fans rediscovering their catalogue.

Too Late Marlene was a radio single in Brazil. I suspect that might play some factor in its streaming popularity. www.top-charts.com/s/too-late-marlene-duran-duranwww.discogs.com/release/2283381-Duran-Duran-Too-Late-MarleneToo Late Marlene is their 29th most streamed song on Spotify with 4.1MM streams!! That is way more than the singles from Big Thing!! It's rubbing shoulders with classic Rio tracks like HBTR and newer songs like LNITC!! Based on those numbers I went back and revisited the song for the first time in a decade and I'm happy to report it still slaps.

"Too Late Marlene" followed almost the same success as "A Matter of Feeling". And another song that played on some radio stations was "Palomino". Big Thing sold 500,000 copies in Brazil.

I am not a fan of the Spotify model as its unfair in paying royalties, however it is a great leveler as far as how the new generations perceive what is good and bad.
As we all know, many of DD's best material are album tracks or B Sides. It's one of the main reasons they superseded their contemporaries of the era.
Too Late Marlene is a great song and still sounds contemporary today, as does A Matter of Feeling.
If this continues then we may finally able to look forward to a time when the live shows have to dig much deeper to satisfy their new found fan base.

Invisible is at 15,4 mil streams worldwide.
streaming pattern is in the 200k a day. will it explode? dont know.
probably it will have this streaming pattern for a couple of months and then it will fade. i predict its going to have more or less 20 mil streams at the end of this. thats not great but its a start.
i hope in the future more dd tracks get the attention they deserve!

A little history on Invisible with Tik Tok and MGSV... knowyourmeme.com/memes/metal-gear-solid-invisible-editsI think the song blew up because of Tik Tok--I think DD MGMT and DD as well as promotion should use this medium more often--huge numbers here: On February 1st, 2024, TikTok[2] user @dripsnake44 posted a fan edit focusing on the Metal Gear Solid 3 character Big Boss, using the 2021's "Invisible" song by Duran Duran. The video (shown below) amassed over 2 million plays and 256,000 likes in a month.
