How a band like Duran Duran, has not revisited the recordings of their commercial peak is another question. 1984 was their year and both the concert footage and audio could do with a complete revisit, re-Edit and new mix to bring it up to today’s standards. Queen have released Live In Montreal on 4K in cinemas and it’s soon to appear on Disney. Get Back was another success. Ok, both Queen and The Beatles are bigger than DD but they are worthy of a such a release. Sometimes I truly wonder what the hell they are thinking of when it comes to looking after their legacy. I understand they don’t like to look too far in the past, but come on, if they really want to remain in the public’s consciousness after they are gone, they have to look after what they did in the beginning and when they were at their peak. The remaining active members of Queen have done a good job with their legacy, although I do think they overdo it. However, Brian May is quite active on social media and they make an effort to revisit their older stuff and put it back out there. DD do bugger all. Simón rarely tweets nowadays.JT gave up years ago and both Nick and Roger have never gone there. There’s very little interaction. Queen are quite frankly, they are bigger than ever and their lead singer has been dead for 32 years, and that’s because they have made an effort to remind people of who they were and what they did. Duran should take note. That actually is a great point From an early live perspective the only thing they’ve officially released is DD Live, from the Hammersmith Odeon in 1982 sure they added Rio and GOF to arena, yet it’s not quite the same, as they too were in the theme of the arena ‘track ending audio effects’ & besides GOF isn’t even in its entirety Indded, DD should take note of Queen as per your example G

I KNOW this isn't the thread for it, but the original video album needs to restored and released at least in hi-def download if not at least Blu-ray... is blu-ray still a thing? I still have 4-5 copies of it o n Laserdisc

In terms of legacy too, I zipped around Asia recently on different airlines and just about every other band you could name of had their own playlist and albums featured on the planes but I found zero DD. On Cathay Pacific for example A ha had their own playlist not just of the obvious 80s either. I know only a small number of people might listen to the playlists these days but it’s just symptomatic of DDs lack of profile and probably why promoters aren’t willing to take the punt in Asia, Aus and NZ etc.

I'd settle for a nice repress of Rio for RSD, but my original will do 😊
Agree on a 1984 show, though, without all the dated effects. That would have byen great.
Still mustn't gruble as I did manage to get Nine Horses' "Snow Borne Sorrow" which was the only RSD release I was after.

DD did hit Japan during Paper Gods release back in 2017 I believe..

I agree, it is so strange that a band who wants to be relevant and important in the history of music, art and video seems to purposely throw their own material away, rather than use it to help promote and even authenticate their legacy. Rick Beato often talks about the artists who will disappear into obscurity are the ones whose work are not available to current and future generations. If DD think their low res videos are going to be of interest to people who were not around in their heyday they are dreaming. But a shiny HD or 4k (even upscale through AI) would make them shiny and new and more ‘relevant’.
The reality is that when they are gone, they risk being forgotten because their work from 80 -2001 has never been restored or cared for visually and in terms of back catalogue audio, has been been released in high res form, apart from the bricked remasters.
I live in hope of a HD or 4k full release of an entire show of Hammersmith Odeon, Oakland in 84, WFTST, Big Thing / ET and Wembley 94. Talk about showing off your legacy..

I still have 4-5 copies of it o n Laserdisc I think I spotted the laser disc version of the First 11 Videos on russian youtube, Ok.RU. They also have some really good quality (fan upscaled?) versions of some videos, some rare shows, and the long version of 3 to get Ready etc. Might be worth a look? To be honest, DD should have a video library to buy and download on their web site, as it's not like fans can just get this stuff. They ignore their legacy, even though they say they appreciate their Future AND Past.

hear hear! the fact that we haven't gotten deluxe VIDEO HISTORY....blows my mind. If we ever see this Retrospective thing I keep hearing about, this is a must for me. I mean, yeah, I've downloaded all the videos...but I would love a blu ray with remastered versions, etc.
sigh.
