Eh, anything is possible I guess. Do I believe this poster? Nope, I've always rolled my eyes at posters on DD message boards claiming to have "inside info." most of them tend to be full of it. However, it would be funny if the band is throwing out a red herring that the album will be delayed until next year and then BAM! New album out in late summer, it would be quite brilliant. Regardless of when the album comes out, whether this year....next year.....etc., I think it would be excellent (and I know I'm repeating myself from other threads) if a new album came quickly after a very basic announcement. No leaked tracks, no hype. Maybe give a teaser (1 song.......nothing more.....stream it on the official website....hell, make it a b-side and not even something from the album itself), but really make the fans hungry for going out and buying the album the day it comes out. Hearing RCM prior to the release, it was like, "Oh. They want me to spend $ on this?". Whether it comes out this summer, next summer, etc., doesn't really mean anything to me. It's much wiser to wait until they've got music they're really excited about, confident in and are comfortable with the mode of releasing it. Absent the above, simply having "something out by summer" would seem kinda desperate and at the same time pointless. Of course - if they DO have a great album and the right mode to release it, then yep.....would make a lot of folks happy to hear it sooner. Still hoping that they hit one out of the park and not repeat past mistakes.

I think we're ALL hoping it's a huge success for them.

What reasons?
Myself, I have a good feeling about it, or I did until Roger said "next year." The wait makes me nervous. Anyway, with RCM I had an overwhelming bad vibe and I'm just not getting that this time.

I think we're ALL hoping it's a huge success for them. Some are, others are already dooming it to failure for some reason or another. Come on Randal........we gotta work on ya with the "glass is half empty" routine. Everybody would love an awesome, mind blowingly good Duran album. Do folks question whether Duran have that creative spark? Of course......they do that with every artist. But dooming it to failure? Not so far I don't think. Ultimately, regardless of folks "dooming" it or not, and even regardless of whether it SELLS or not.......the success or failure of the album for most of us will be measured by how good the music is. Guess what I'm saying is.....the ball is completely in the bands court.

Anyway, with RCM I had an overwhelming bad vibe and I'm just not getting that this time. Same here. With RCM, there were a lot of warning signs that kept getting bigger and bigger. Hype about how great the first sessions were. More hype.....album will be out soon! Then John seemingly questioning what they had. More time passing. Andy booted. We're working with hip hop producers! It's happenin' fast. We're scraping all the work previously done and startin over! It's Duran wrapped in chrome baby! Uh....Sony didn't like what we previously had. Uh....Sony told us to work with a big name producer. Uh.......we're doing what we're told to do by suits. Uh.....it's gonna be great! (kinda sum it up?) It's likely that they're still having or have had some problems creatively, but having Ronson on board is hopefully a big plus this time. He's not just a hired hand making big bucks to show up for a week so that his name can be used for marketing.....no, Ronson has a personal history with the band and cares about `em. He's been working with them for, what? A year? He's invested in what they're doing. They need someone like that who can give them honest criticism and be a good objective ear/voice. He's not someone trying to turn them into something they're not (unlike Timbaland, etc.). I'm optimistic until they prove me wrong....and I hope they take their time and get it right. And even if the album turned out to not be great......I'd much rather them hang their hat on an album they worked hard on and gave it their best shot, vs. one that they outsourced and let others call the shots on.

Who is dooming this album to failure? Everybody seems to be really looking forward to it and can't wait until the album is released?
Or is this just another Randall accusation made up so he can slam the fanbase yet again? Where he takes one or two poster's (if that) extreme claims and for reasons only beknownst to him paints the entire fanbase with that outlandish (and very large) brush?
We get it Randal, you're the best fan Duran has ever, and will ever, have, and deep down we all really hate them and you're the only one who really loves them and it's so cool how you're always so positive and we undeserving beings are so terrible because we're always so negative about the band.
There - you happy now. You have completed your mission in this thread, one gold star for you. Now go forth and find your next thread where you can criticise Duran Duran's fanbase. TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!!!

I've heard from couple people at EMI that single planned for end of year and cd Feb (not on EMI label or at this stage just a contact they have) I've heard the same. If it was coming out this Summer, you would have heard about it by now. February is looking likely - but even that could change.

being critical doesn't mean you don't support the band. shit, i should know, i've been critical enough of some of the work they've done, but i'm with them till the bitter end. i love this band and i live in hope of their talent and creativity showing up for work. i have the right to get a bit freaked out (meaning worried) when i hear them comment "shakira's she wolf (or whatever the new single is called) sounds like GOF" because 1. it doesn't and 2. it irks me to no end to think that they are listening to crap of that magnitude and comparing it to their own excellent music. get a grip dudes. when they started they were listening to ground breaking music, bowie, roxy music, sex pistols.
shakira?! where's simon's ass cos i want to kick it; someone get me nick's face cos I want to slap it! ;D
as for the coming album..... if kikilon has inside info or not, is irrelevant. i don't care if it takes them 5 years, it just better be the best f___ing album of the year, and I don't mean in the charts.

Well said! And the last few posters who've thrown February out there........that sounds more realistic. I still kinda hope they just announce "it's coming" a month before release and then put it out without more than a one song preview........something less single oriented and more of a deep cut that would spark folks imaginations. Just not into albums made for the purpose of writing 4 or 5 potential singles. Just doesn't interest me when any band does that.
