Yeah, I Duran doesn't need his drama. He seems about angry even though he had 10+ years in the band. At this point I say "stick with dom" who needs drama queens like WC or AT.
Very envious indeed. I could maybe understand his criticism of RCM, but Astronaut was a great album and much better than some of the 90's duran crap that he was involved in.

I thought it was a pretty good interview, liked the technical bits and bobs in it. May have come across as a bit catty, but hey, everyone's got an opinion. You don't have to agree with it, it was just nice to get a peek behind the curtain so to speak.

Yes, everyone has an opinion, and has a right to express it, but doesn't mean he has to be an Justin Beiber Fan. I think he gives himself way too much credit than he deserves. Not only did he put Andy down, he put down any guitarist by inflating his playing skills on a delusional level.

At this point I say "stick with dom" who needs drama queens like WC or AT. I completely agree with this sentiment. At least at the moment Dom doesn't seem to have the same big ego as either one of them. Let's just hope he does have the talent.

Interesting comments on the interview from everybody. I kinda find myself on all sides of the fence on this one. Kudos for some good questions, even if a few were a bit leading.....but still - they got some interesting comments from Warren.
I dig Andy, but it's still interesting hearing Warren's take on Andy's playing, attitude, etc. As Droid and others pointed out - there's some serious egos involved (and I'd extend that well beyond just Warren and Andy).
Warren says "Andy's insecure" - and then on the other hand, ya kinda wonder, "okay.....why was it so important that everybody come to your resteraunt, hang out, etc?". That tour was about the reunion and they had a pretty heavy schedule. I think most, putting themselves in Warren's shoes, would find it odd to expect the band to hang out with him, etc. He just sounds like a guy starved for attention. And the G-magazine thing? Uh....Simon and Nick didn't seem to be too proud of the magazine spread thing either. They've joked about it in some interviews, and in others have seemed pretty displeased with the whole thing. I mean....."the Rock Rod"? That's supposed to help your band? And that doesn't qualify as flaky?
Given the "stab you in the back" behind the scenes of Nick/Simon, etc. in pulling the reunion together - who knows what really went down? Would've been pretty easy for the band/their management to say, "Well, Andy doesn't want you around because he's insecure", when it could've been the rest of the band who didn't want to associate with Warren at the time. In fact, seems like he expressed being ticked with them back at the time, but that could just be fuzzy memory. I remember him slamming Simon's singing in a very technical way, not unlike his comments about Andy.
I do think Warren is a great technical player.....very inventive and yet classical at the same time, so I kinda have to respect his point of view though it seems obvious there's a lot of personal bias and resentment in there. He's always made an attempt to marginalize Andy's contributions for his own personal gain / stature in the band. And he always had a tendancy to take credit for alot of their work - which could well be the case, but why the need to take credit in a public way? Intentionally playing stuff in a way that no one else could recreate it? And who's insecure? Interesting stuff.
There's one thing I can thank him for......sort of: he says no one else can play Electric Barbarella. While on one hand I wish there never would have BEEN an Electric Barbarella, I am at least comforted at the thought that I would never again be subjected to it. Wishful thinking at least.
The comments on the last two Duran albums were pretty interesting. I do much prefer the Pop Trash album to Astronaut, but I don't think Astronaut was a terrible album - especially not in comparison to a lot of the stuff Warren played on (plenty of bad songs on the Warren era albums). Wonder what Nick's reaction was to Warren's criticism of RCM/producers, etc.? That's a conversation I'd have liked to have overheard.
Anyway - cool interview.....sort of a "Warren: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly". This is the guy who insists that the U.S. government attacked New York and Washington on 9/11 and that anyone who disagrees with him has been brainwashed. And then there was the whole pseudo-religious-awakening thing where he seemed to aspire to being a prophet of some sort. Never quite understood that and attributed it to what I assume was Warren doing some serious drugs at the time.
How long before Warren writes/records something with em?

Good points thetange (though I do like Electric Barbarella, haha).
I'll actually add something to the whole "Andy couldn't play my parts" deal though. Warren wasn't exactly playing Andy's stuff note-for-note either when he was in the band. Sure, some stuff like Anyone Out There came pretty close, if not exactly the same. But listen to something like Planet Earth from his time in the band and it sounds nothing like what Andy played it originally. On the other hand, Dom usually tries to stick to how Andy played them on a lot of songs. At least for the most part anyway.
Not criticizing Warren for playing that stuff differently or anything. I'm sure Wes and Joe didn't go out of their way to play it exactly as it sounded on the CD either. But I find it kind of odd that he'd bash Andy for not playing his parts the right way when it really didn't happen the other way around either.

Kudos for some good questions, even if a few were a bit leading.....but still - they got some interesting comments from Warren. Agreed! Good questions and even though I vehemently disagree with WaCu...good responses as well. I think they are honest, no BS (in HIS mind anyway) responses. I dig Andy, but it's still interesting hearing Warren's take on Andy's playing, attitude, etc. As Droid and others pointed out - there's some serious egos involved (and I'd extend that well beyond just Warren and Andy). I mean....."the Rock Rod"? That's supposed to help your band? And that doesn't qualify as flaky? I said the same thing about the flakiness factor over at LKDD. I just majorly LOL'ed when I read that comment about flakiness from him. Like OH SUUURE...like HE is some kind of template for non-flakiness! LMAO!!! Good lord...of COURSE the Rock ROD didn't HELP the band at ALL! I've never been an apologist for Andy quitting (The first time. The second time...well, I'm still confused as to whether he QUIT or was let go). Hmmm...yeah, now that you mention it, I DO recall something like that too. Just more sour grapes from WaCu. While on one hand I wish there never would have BEEN an Electric Barbarella, I am at least comforted at the thought that I would never again be subjected to it. Wishful thinking at least. HAHAHA!!! Amen to THAT! I never thought EB was a very good song either...but probably the best there is (next to Big Bang Generation) on that mess of an album. The comments on the last two Duran albums were pretty interesting. I do much prefer the Pop Trash album to Astronaut, but I don't think Astronaut was a terrible album - especially not in comparison to a lot of the stuff Warren played on (plenty of bad songs on the Warren era albums). No way. Anyway - cool interview.....sort of a "Warren: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly". Never quite understood that and attributed it to what I assume was Warren doing some serious drugs at the time. How long before Warren writes/records something with em? All that 9/11 truther thing was BIZARRE!!! Ditto for the religious awakening, although had he really reconnected with God/faith in some way I don't think that would have been a bad thing. That's a positive, not a negative...but it depends on how wacked out over it a person can be. Meh...I don't know the details of that, so I'll end comment on that. But hey, I do think the whole thing of banning him from the shows and not going to his restaurant was kind of tacky. Ok...REALLY tacky. I don't see the reason for that...

Well, it's about different styles. I tried to make that point elsewhere but to near-deaf ears... It was kinda like talking to oh...I dunno...CARDBOARD?!
