Ok. I've started into the 7 stages of a new Duran Album:
1) - Shock or Disbelief - "I can't believe it! They've done it! They have finally captured their classic sound! All is finally well in the land of Duran again!"
2) - Denial - "No. I'm not getting bored of these two tracks (Mediterranea and AYNIN) as I listen to them more and more. No. This is not going to be just like Astronaut. I'm still going to listen to this album more than a month after purchasing it."
3) - Anger - "Crap! Why doesn't JT's bass stand out like it used to? What's with all the distortion and over-production? Not again!"
4) - Bargaining - "OK. I know Astronaut and RCM weren't great... but after I hear a few tracks live they will grow on me...(ex: Nice and The Valley)
5) - Guilt - "I'm a terrible fan. I went on the DD message board and said that deep inside I'm not thrilled so far with the new material. People are going to trash me and I somehow I deserve it. I didn't even hear the whole album yet. Maybe it's too soon for me to judge."
6) - Depression - "This time really may be it. If this one tanks, what will the future hold for DD? This time they really may have to pack it in."
7) - Acceptance - "Well, at least I'll get to hear 'Save a Prayer' live on tour a few more times. That's something to look forward to."
Be honest with me. Does anyone feel a little bit like this right about now?

Nope. The new album is going to be amazing and it's the natural successor to "Rio" that we've all waited years and years for. Sorry, but nobody can stop the joy I'm feeling right now! ;D

Seriously, there's no reason, at least for me, to feel all doom and gloom about this album at this point. I'm still very very excited about hearing it in its entirety.

I personally think that DD shouldn't try to recapture their classic sound or aim for a modern audience like they tried to in RCM. They should just write their own music and see where it goes. That's what Coldplay did with Viva La Vida and that was a huge success.

I can't wait. I think the best thing for me is seeing how relaxed and happy they are looking right now. They're ENJOYING the music again and that's GOOD for everyone.

I'm glad they've chased their old sound. If it's brought out the best in the band, then I say go for it. For the first time since the band reformed, I'm actually not that interested in hearing their old songs, because they've created twelve *new* classics that we've never heard before. Twelve classics which have always been in the band's subconscious but were never recorded as their focus drifted elsewhere in the post-Rio mainstream hype. But finally, those songs are seeing the light of day on 21st December!

Nope. No reason to and for heaven's sake it's just music! I've got plenty of real world things to worry about and so for me, I don't look at it that way. I think it should be a fun thing, even if I don't like part of the album. Music gives me an escape for a few minutes from things like business, busy family life, certain leadership duties I have. The FULL album isn't even out yet. No sense in worrying about things this deep yet... if ever! ;D Just enjoy it & take it for what it is. If they've lasted this long through good & bad albums they'll survive this as well regardless. And if it's the end of the band, well, sad, but The Beatles broke up too and the world went on!! ;D Not trying to pee on anyone's Cheerio's, you asked I told!! ;D Your 7 stages bring a giggle though because I'm sure there are some out there already at stage 6!
