I mean cash lotteries, instant win tickets, etc...
Harmless diversion? Tool of the devil? Anybody ever win any money playing those things? I think the most I've ever won is $10. Yet every once in a while I'll invest a buck in a Mega Millions ticket, but I get skunked every time. You'd think I'd learn!!

I think they are a FANTASTIC alternative to taxes, as are toll roads.

its always baffled me why i can spend a quid on a scratch card only to win a quid. whats the point in that ?
also, on the very rare occasion i win a tenner for three numbers on the national lottery, the fact is i've only won £9 cos it cost me a pound to play.

I won $50.00 once. Other than that I've mostly won 1 or 2 dollars or a free ticket. I don't play to often.

I play a dollar every 1-2 weeks.
The lottery has done great things through the revenue received by the states.
I just think it is a bad habit for many people... Gambling, even in this form, is a bad addiction!

One interesting aspect of lotteries is their longevity-in my job I've inventoried our library's newspaper collection, and there are ads in newspapers for lotteries as far back as the 1750s!
The desire to get rich quick is not a modern invention...

I don't win anything from those so I rarely play them.

I've never bought a lottery ticket ever and I don't intend to. I don't believe I will win so why bother. I know that's the wrong attitude to have but back when I was way poorer than I am now, I decided it was better to eat than play the lotto. I would not stop anyone else from playing, but odds are that you'll lose, so spend your money elsewhere would be my advice.
