I won $4 once,but it would have cost $4.10 for a BART (train)ticket to go collect it. On the bright side I just got an email saying I won $10,000,000 in the Canadian lotto (it'll just cost me $5000 upfront for handling fees).So PARTY at my house :-)

I think they are a FANTASTIC alternative to taxes, as are toll roads.

my hubby's is two different lottery pools, and haven't done too badly.. and also does ones just for us too..
Me about 3-4 times a year I'll buy a sratch card or two... Never won anything big..

To me it's like gambling. Sometimes you win. Every Christmas my family exchanges lottery tickets. This year I won about ten bucks. My uncle's girlfriend won $2,000! I've never won that much. The only lottery I don't wantto win is in the book "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson. That's a creepy book. I'd gladly win the other lotteries.

I play scratch offs every once in a while, and when the pot is big, I'll buy $5 for quick picks in the Illinois MegaMillions.
I do know one family who won, I *think* it was $15 million dollars. Their grandson is my older son's classmate. They seem down-to-earth and all, and they didn't go on a spending spree. Still live in the same house, still worked (but took an early retirement), but they *do* give each one of their kids $50,000 per year.

It's gambling but I think it's harmless. Unless you're not feeding your family because you keep buying tickets in hopes of winning "the big one"....then it's a problem.

The most I've won is $60 on a scratch off. Everyday I see the sign on the highway for the Mega Millions jackpot and I alway day dream when it gets to be over 100 mill.
9 times out of 10 I say I'm going to buy a ticket but then I forget.
