Mmmmm...
i've a feeling you're playing semantics here 'slightly' redrumba & excluding a key element of what was written to try & get a rise.
Well, whilst it's not how i'd have phrased it personally, Jo's response about (to paraphrase) "not being for financial gain" vs "selling the collection for Marcus' financial needs" aren't mutually exclusive concepts... ...& you'd missed out the "better to good homes than profiteering" bit.
Now, obviously, there's a financial component to it all (& i don't believe you'd expect everything to be given away for free), but...
Well, what 'could' have been done is that a store (akin to the aforementioned UK one) was set up on eBay with ridiculously high pricing on a 'take it or leave it' basis to maximise profit & with a never-ending supply of bootleg copies of the promo videos & whatnot - which would be profiteering...
...whereas instead, whilst you may personally disagree with some of the starting prices, the market is allowed to decide what something's worth by them being reasonable.
(& obviously this is within the context of there being some relatively exciting items within each set of listings which will naturally attract the money that's available at the time to be spent - well, most of us don't have unlimited budgets - so some items will not sell simply because of that... i know that i have to prioritise what i buy...)
That similarly, from my experience, Jo's approachable about ideas - well, as an example a week or so before this thread started, she made a pretty useful & very kind offer following a slightly cheeky request i threw at her, where clearly money wasn't the concern from her reply - certainly backs this up...
i'm in no way suggesting that she's a pushover though &, quite naturally, different people build up a different rapport with each other so i'm certainly not claiming that anything that's thrown at her would be accommodated - but it wasn't about profit in the slightest.
As to choosing to register to comment when fingers are being pointed accusingly, i'd refer you back to my earlier, slightly absurdist, analogy, as personally i don't think you've got an argument here.
Before i registered, i lurked for a while to see if it this forum was actually somewhere i wanted to be involved with (well D2 forums can be nasty cliquey places at times & any real info can be accessed without registering) &, if memory serves, only did so when the dd.no stuff kicked off - in that situation some people were making wild allegations & suppositions & this was as useful a place as any to counter them & to try & set the record straight; well, as much as was possible within the restrictions of the letter from the big NY lawyers, though i stretched that as far as i could.
Well, within that situation then it was nothing but a money pit from Klaus' perspective (rather than a shop as was claimed) &, from mine, it was always about archiving things so that people could have copies of things for free... ...the internet being a transitory place where things disappear if they're not collated.
Now, whilst similarly i'm not a pushover, i'm sure there's a few people on here who could vouch that i've sent them things for free (not even for blanks + postage or trade) when i've had the time to do them... ...i still (unofficially) do things for other sites now - though everyone's being far more careful post dd.no...
...&, most importantly, i really object to profiteering... ...so similarly, i wouldn't have commented in defence of Jo if i felt that, in any manner, she was trying to do so.
Still, maybe it all goes back to relationships & perhaps, whilst i came across in a manner that worked with her, you didn't with some previous deal as (again) it does come across as though you've got some other axe to grind here...
...this still though is simply being me making a supposition as you've not been badmouthed to me - which i'd suggest is certainly a sign of integrity, despite the acrimony that's obviously here.
