O.K., I'm in the car with my sister (I'm 35 and she's almost 21) and she's driving. She puts a CD in and tells me it's rap (which is fine with me, I'm a hip hop fan from WAAAY back). It's sombody named Young Jeezy (or however you spell it) and it SUCKS!! I ask her "what the hell is that?" she says "You don't know nothing about hip hop" I said "Hold up, THAT is not hip hop, you don't know nothing about hip hop, little girl" Then I'm thinking to myself.....that's something my mother would say!!!! Anyway, like I said, I love me some hip hop from way back in the 80s and early 90s, (BDP, EPMD, Erik B., Brand Nubian, etc., you catch my drift). Other than Jay Z, Outkast and Common, I don't what in the world some of this stuff out now is!! Do I just need to get with the program or what.............

I'm with you. I have a hard time with most popular hip-hop, and there's only a few contemporary artists - the ones you mentioned and Jurassic 5, Mos Def and a small handful of others - that I'll have in my collection.
Young Jeezy is like all the other cookie-cutter rap artists who've come down the pike in the past decade: A year from now he'll be confined to the cut-out bin alongside J-Kwon, Fabolous and a thousand other one-hit wonders.

LOL!! I am feeling so old, because I have no clue about most of the "rappers" out now. I have heard of them, but just don't know the music.

@ Stupe....exactly!!!!! I also forgot Mos Def, I like him. I mean how many ways can you rap about beeaatches, ho's, money and death???
Excluding the artists you and I mentioned, I'm sorry to say, hip hop is dead to me

Don't feel bad. I don't like most of it nowadays either. I'm a big fan of old school rap & hip hop when they actually had something to say about their lifestyles. Now, there's only so many ways you can rap about thinking you wanna smack some woman's ass while you drink your pimp juice and be up in the club with the playas & the hatas. All the songs are the same now and they all have one thing in common. They pretty much suck.

I also forgot to mention Kanye West. As much as I HATE his arogance, it pains me to say I actually like most of his music. I wasn't crazy about any of his first songs, but after MUCH restraint at first , I broke down and bought his last CD

It's crazy. When I lived in KC up until 98' it was HUGE there. You couldn't sell a West Coast or Southern rap album here in NYC at that time to save your life. NOW...It's all over the place. I remember when the second Jay Z album came out there we couldn't give it away, but by god E 40 and Mac Dre flew out the store.

I'm not a fan of hip hop or rap. At work i'm surrounded by late teen/early twentysomething people and most of them are into that kind of music. When they have their conversations about the latest hip hop artists i'm totally lost. I really do not have anyone to talk to about music that interests me. Kind of makes me feel old sometimes.
