hip-hop is like every other genre to me - there is extremely good, bad and everything in between. it was hard for me to evolve from what i first liked in hip-hop to what is out now. when i listen to some of the old stuff it still sounds better - the other day i heard eric b and rakim, i know you got soul, and i wanted to cry i loved it so much!

I know what you mean. But quality artists like Eric B. and Rakim might as well come from a different planet when compared to most of what falls under the hip-hop umbrella these days.

I can't stand most modern hip hop. I do like the artists mentioned (Kanye, Common, OutKast, etc). I like good hip hop. Unfortunately too much crap dominates. I think most music today sucks. Not just rap. The only genre where I think it's gotten better recently is alternative. Oddly, alternative plays many of the new good rappers. They are playing Lupe Fiasco all the time. I tend to prefer the older rappers who had something to say.

Its nothing on you, we just have to remember its a "newer" generation of newer Hip Hoppers, Im not a Hip Hip Fan, but I do remember the music we grew up with. Believe me I go through similar stuff with my niece & shes 29 (me 39) - however, since she was small I grilled her with all sorts of 60-80's music. She knows the difference, but she still is attracted to the latest
