I'm brand new to these forums, but I've been a Duran fan since 83, and recently got into vinyl again about 6 months ago. My hobby has been steering me towards collecting all Duran vinyl 81-85. I've been trying to find a site that catalogs the different versions of the first 2 albums. I know the basics and have the ionpool.net link saved, but I would like to see label pics and matrix info.
For example, I got an EMI Rio the other day, but the label is dark blue, not the pastel label like on the Capital releases. Seems like I may not have a 1st press EMI? There's so much to know!!! I loved the article in the Duran Duran Monthly Collector's Corner in July, about the different pressings of their S/T album. Had pics of the different labels. Is there a site like that, or is discogs.com my best bet?

Hi Rob, welcome! Great to see you love vinyl as well! Thanks for the compliment on July's CC ;-)
The dark blue Rio album, could that be (one of) the Asian (HK/MA/SG) releases? I recently learned that Rio came out with 3 different labels over there: red, dark blue and black. You can identify this Asian release by checking the backside of the sleeve (lower right corner).
Curious to know what you find out!

Certainly don't forget that one indeed! However, like any other catalogue site none of the mentioned sites are complete! Maybe wiki comes close, Discogs absolutely not (however matrix info is very helpful) and Tom's site lacks a few releases here and there. By the way, maybe it is me, but i think the wiki one is a bit dreadful to navigate... Especially when you search for a particular release. Another two which could be helpful: duranduran.es and duran2.net These are collection sites but (to me at least) were very helpful to check out. Best regards, Peter

The wiki one isn't very easy to navigate, you're right. I use duranduran.es the most if I'm looking for info.

I also think that durannorway.com and durandurancollection.nl are really useful and not to forget duranduran.cz and there are lots of others!

Found my Rio EMI. It's EMI Asia. It lists Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong on the back. So now my next need is a UK EMI.
