Oh Tina, just wait until you encounter all of the fundraisers throughout the year. These usually entail writing check after check after check. I saw a bumper sticker yesterday that read, "No child left a dime" So sad the truth in that. It's outrageous that our government's priorities are so f ucked up.

So have I, Carina. So on top of handing over more cash, tack on hours and hours of volunteer time.
NOT complaining, though, as I've volunteered willingly! It's all for the kids!

OMGawd it is crazy isn't it?!? WHY do u have to supply the teachers with their needs and supplies? That is strange! And I agree this gov't/country has it twisted when it comes to school funding. ANd what about the lottery system? I thought that money was supposed to be going to our schools??? Hummm.... I have 4 of my own and just getting them clothes/supplies/shoes/PE clothes etc, is stressful. LOL My oldest daughter is starting Jr. High and my son is starting HS so they of course need a whole new wardrobe. Yikes.. My daughter went yesterday she got everything but her shoes, backpack, and socks and she spent 200$. My son is playing HS football this year and just for him to play it is costing 140$. It is just crazy I swear... At this rate I will NEVER be able to attend another DD concert. (If and when they ever tour again).

Jai, I fully intend to help out at the school as well. At least my time doesn't cost anything! ;D Happy to do it.
Katkat.....4 kids!!!!!!! Good luck!!! ;D You're a much braver woman than I am! ;D
Man, funding the college funds would be that much harder than just with our two! We had our financial guy run the numbers & even with all that we're saving now for them, if they decide to go to a private college there STILL won't be enough!
Well, that's life!! ;D

I hear ya...I have two kids in public schools. The cost is astounding, esp since the first fundraisers hit 2 days after school starts and pictures follow that by about 2 weeks. Impossible to get ahead of the costs.

I bought a $100 calculator for my daughter last year. I called the school and told them what happens if I didnt get it for her, they replied she would fall behind.
I havent got a list for teacher things, just what they need. ANd of course that adds up.
And I wonder why I liked home schooling so much

Big Lots or Staples has really good deals. I get most of my kid's supplies for about $20-30.
Then I write it off as a business expense.

Rio--I DO homeschool High school and middle school (10th and 6th)... and my supplies, curriculum, clothes, etc... cost me $200 a year for two kids. I love it... and I do not miss having to buy school supplies the way you guys are. not one bit. toni
