ada.lnk.to/Astronomia-IIm late as always to the party. I gave them all a good listen and there are some nice tracks there. Its good that this was released for free, so everyone can hear the whole album and not just the snippets. I think the words on DD.com sum it up. "Each individual piece is a sonic painting, a tapestry of rich textures and haunting melodies forming soundscapes with an otherworldly atmosphere.". I was worried that this would be another dive into the grungy surreal world of Medazzaland, but in fact its not. Oceans of Titan stands out and has a Bladerunner feel to it. If anything, fans of Vangelis or Tangerine Dream will know what to expect. Basically a watercolour of moods and harmony's. If anything its not really pretentious at all, which might be surprising to Nick haters on here. I felt the first half/side carried the bulk of the stormy weather, but not in a twisted way - thankfully. The second half/side was more the windswept hills type of thing. Not bad, might give it some more plays actually. Good, appreciate the review thanks, thread closed, back to DD40 😉

Of course DD40 was last year, or two years ago, depending on who you ask. Simon joined the band May 11th 1980, so that's the date I use. DD15 is looking like September, its only March. At least it makes a change from the 'Nick cant play' threads.

John lives in LA whilst the rest are in the U.K. He can’t come over due to restrictions and who knows what issues band members and their friends and families are having to deal with. Currently you aren’t meant to leave your local area and it’s been like that since December. I can’t see much progress on the new album being made just now. Duran haven’t said much beyond they want to release the album when they can tour. John has been in LA for the last year so the band haven’t rehearsed or played together in a year other than their Bowie cover. I’d say the 40th anniversary is not going to happen. It’s a shame but we are going through the biggest crisis this world has seen in any of our lifetimes. Some things are just more important.

It’s the things that don't require social distancing that can be sorted. Plenty of artists are releasing new music even with a pandemic. It’s physical stuff like boxsets that could see a release. That’s of course if something has been worked on.

These threads would be very quick to read if you guys didn't keep quoting me. I know Im a total waste of space but this just proves it.
Many event dates are pushed back to September, so perhaps the album could be made ready for a release around then. But as you say, it looks unlikely.
I wrote in to the band last week to ask about a virtual tour, that is, to go somewhere without restrictions and beam the broadcast around the world. I suggested a boat trip around the Carribean, where the boat could stop in places like Antigua, Monserrat, Nassau, and Jamaica (Bond connection), and they could perform on the big wide boat deck so that it doesnt affect restrictions. Probably will never happen but its better than hoping for nothing.
They released a load of albums to I-tunes recently, for streaming, so certainly box sets could be released. It seems with the lockdown there is a world shortage of paper, so book and printed materials are going up in price, and printing times have gone up from 2 weeks to 3 months.
