I may be the only one here that loves Safe. I really think there are no weak songs on AYNIN with maybe Other Peoples Lives the weakest. It is probably my 2nd favorite DD album although I rank it behind Rio and the Debut. And after almost two months, I rank Future past in the top 5 still. Safe is ok but I can live without Other People’s Lives and Blame The Machines.

Yes, I have that one. There was the limited edition Vinyl Factory pressing that went for silly money. No standard LP though. I have a double vinyl AYNIN featuring 14 tracks, it was only $ 80 AU which is reasonable considering it was two vinyl discs. when you say standard, do you mean a standard version with the initial 9 digital tracks?

one of the best they have ever done. the band worked really well and very tight with Dom on guitar. Every song great but AYNIN! Nick's screeching keyboards ruin it for me and it's 2 songs in 1--not sure what Ronson was thinking with that song..it's the second part of the song that is great for me... Best part is when the video goes to color best part of the song in my opinion..AYNIN was a weak first single..everything on FP kills that opening song.. I love what nick does on AYNIN both song and LP, in fact all ever want nick to do is play something I’ve never heard before because then what ever he does is interesting whereas if he plays some thing that he’s done before it’s predictable, obvious and a case of been there done that I partly agree with you, imo everything on FP (except for one track) is better than anything on AYNIN. One of the reasons AYNIN is the least listened to of all dd LPs (for me) is because it’s all been heard before and hence a predictable album. I live for the stimulation if I want dd covering the exact same ground which they did in 82, I’ll listen to Rio but that’s just my opinion, what do I know, except for how music moves me.

I'm still loving the album. Ten years on and I feel it has stood the test of time. For me, it blows everything from the 90s and 00s away. I can listen to that album or songs from it and it feels...right.
Someone mentioned in the album hurt/heal thread that they thought it was a little sad that the top DD albums were the original 2 and that it implied that they hadn't done anything worthy since then. While I don't see it that way for that particular situation (I think it's more that it was the common denominator within this vast and varied DD fan community), before AYNIN, I did feel that their best days were behind them, and (barring the occasional blip of goodness that frankly seemed more like a fluke) it was the law of diminishing returns with their albums. The harshest disappointment for me was that even bringing back Andy and Roger didn't help me enjoy their work any more than before. I really thought my relationship with DD was pretty much done. Arcade Fire, (I know Andre will have a coronary when he reads this next one) Coldplay, and random other musical artists were now filling that void DD used to occupy. At that point I was getting DD albums out of some outdated obligation. They had been my favorite band for so long, so the least I could do was give them the benefit of the doubt and an open-minded listen of anything new they put out. But it was nothing I particularly looked forward to.
I remember being ho-hum about the album when it was announced and I was bracing myself for another disappointment. At that point I think I wasn't even hopeful about it being good at all. It was more like, "Ugh, I wonder what they're going to sound like now..." I think it felt even more frustrating since Astro, obviously because Andy and Roger were back, and because popular music was starting to take a turn to be more punk/new wave/80s inspired. So for me, I kept hearing songs that I thought, "why can't DD sound more like them?!" And especially hearing such great music from Arcade Fire I definitely thought DD could borrow a page or two from them, instead of Timberlake or Maroon 5 or whoever they were trying to emulate.
Anyway, I think I listened to some snippets before the album came out, but it was only cursorily. I wasn't listening to those bits 20 times and trying to analyze how much guitars there were or what was prominent in the mix, etc. It was just very casual listens, partially out of disinterest and expecting to be disappointed. And even when I got the CD, I think I let it sit for days, a week perhaps, before I bothered to listen to it. It was pure apathy at that point.
But once I actually listened to it, I thought, "not bad". And like I mentioned before, once Girl Panic hit and everything else after it, I thought, "wow. This is actually really good." But it also wasn't like a revelation either. I think I was so far gone, part of me probably wasn't processing how good the album was. But the more I listened to it, the more I was loving it. I think it wasn't until I had listened to it for several weeks before it really hit me how great it was. It wasn't that I disliked it at first and then came around. I liked it pretty instantly. But I guess I didn't realize just how amazing it truly was until I saw just how much joy I was getting out of listening to the songs. There wasn't much (if anything) to nit pick about, and nothing to outright dislike. The whole album sounded great. Yes, a couple of songs are slightly lesser than the rest, but nothing like the past 20 years of DD music had been for me!
So I am still loving the album. Simon sounds amazing. Everyone is in top form. Even has some decent guitars in it! It really saved DD for me. I really like PG and FP, and I have to wonder if AYNIN might have softened me up a bit to them and if I would like the 2 last albums as much as I do if not for AYNIN. I feel like AYNIN cleansed my palette and for me gave them a fresh start. I love this “new” DD.

AYNIN also got me “back” into Duran. I bought every album and like Astro, but RCM was such a disappointment. I didn’t even see a show on that tour. When I heard they were making an album with Ronson and watched the Smirnoff Experience show and heard the clips, I was super excited. And I loved the result.

Other People's Lives is great... it goes well with Too Bad You're so Beautiful.... first i heard the 9 tracks album and thought "wow! this album is something special" but then when they released the longer version and had those two songs, i was ecstatic! so damn proud of that album .... it's like Duran had just pressed the "Boost" button on their race car

my memory must have failed me. I forgot that there was a standard version, albeit a limited run, of this album. They are really going for silly money.
