A Billboard Awards performance will generate solid media coverage and it’s a great way to create mainstream awareness for the album/anniversary post-pandemic. And the clip of the performance will be online for the international audiences immediately. Billboard remains very kind to DD, even putting them on the cover during the release of Paper Gods.
Really now, how many legacy bands are being booked for a prime time award shows in the US? None. Let’s give a little credit where credit is due.

At least we know stuff is moving along.

The reason why DD are provided such ‘grandeur’ is because it’s Billboard. The band have made their bed in America. If they had shown as much love to ‘rest of world’ over the last 20 years as much as they have to the States then we’d find the band getting invited to a whole lot more than Billboard. It ain't all about the USA you know. As for credit? You’re joking right? They’ve done nothing during Covid. While I’ve been watching artists do their best to keep themselves busy and to provide fans with some r&r, DD did zilch. Oh hang on, there’s Whoooooosh or the bass god tutorials. Wow. Credit, where credit’s due. I’ll reserve that for something for much more deserving.

There’s no way Coxon will be touring with Duran beyond a guest appearance here or there. He’s a diverse artist with a solo career in addition to Blur. Dom updates his Instagram and his bio still says lead guitarist with Duran Duran. Blur's done though I think, disappointingly. But yeah, I'd be surprised if he toured full time with DD.

My favorite album of all time is The Stones Roses’s debut and that band NEVER toured the States. As for DD ‘s apparent devotion to the US, it’s simple economics : this is the most lucrative market in the world for live music. They can tour here anytime and will fill some decent size arenas as well as the biggest venues in key markets (Staples Center, MSG). Plus, the US tends to reward the British bands that put in the time and conquer our shores (Stones, Floyd, Zeppelin, DD, Coldplay...even Oasis were a decent live draw with just 1 or 2 big singles). As a fellow fan, I do hope they show some more love to rest of the world, especially their home turf. Part of what made DD seemed so cool in the first place was being English.

Sure, I get that if DD hadn’t broke the USA all those years ago then they more than likely wouldn’t exist now. But If DD had an office this side of the Atlantic in addition to the USA then things could be a lot different now with Public Relations and promotion outside of America. It is very frustrating. Especially if you read the discontent on social media from fans outside of the USA. None of it is addressed by Katy or Magus. It’s too late now - but outside the USA, Billboard is only of interest to people interested in music from the USA. For me personally it’s not big news. It’s pretty obvious that DD have lost their appetite for major success. Or they’ve lost complete momentum and couldn't get back what they once had even if they tried. It’s as almost as if they were given a choice to maintain success. “Do we target Europe, U.K. and the rest of the world? Or do we put all our eggs into the basket and opt for USA?”

With them being signed to a major US label I would have thought that they would dictate what the best promotion strategy would be. The Billboard performance will be globally available once it's be aired in some form (YouTube etc) Hopefully they will coincide that with UK TV and Radio promotion of some kind.
Gotta be a little bit positive haven't we John?

I’m going to dare to believe that them being allocated this slot suggests that someone, somewhere has bought into this being a good song. If it was total shyt, i can’t believe they’d have them in, as there are plenty of others that would gladly take it.
