The kid and her parents were on Good Morning America and OF COURSE, the dad made an excuse....she had ear surgery and must have had ear pain on the trip down and was upset about getting back on the plane for the return trip. Whatever, dude... Then maybe they should have postponed the trip?

@pia - I have recommended further action to the director. We will see what happens. He doesn't exhibit the classic symptoms of behavioral problems yet. He will sit and color and will watch a Buzz Lightyear dvd, but when it comes to something he doesn't want to do, he goes off. I think he knows he will get a reaction and he goes for it.
He is just not well-behaved.

I believe the airline did the right thing because the situation could've resulted in a safety issue.

wow.... i'll fly that airline ANY DAY! WOOT...chalk one up for AirTran!
and i can relate.... in the not too distant past, i was out with a few friends at a restaurant. for some reason, maybe it's cause the 'rents couldn't find a babysitter or something, this couple decided to bring their BRATS with them....both children were young and should have been in bed (imho), and both kiddies were unruly, loud, obnoxious and just flat out of control! running around their table, almost causing a few waiters/waitresses drop stuff - both parents kept apologizing to those around them...but did NOTHING to reprimand their children! my friends and i asked our waiter about saying something to the couple...we were told we weren't the only ones to have mentioned saying something to them.
long story short, that family eventually left the restaurant....but, not before a few other patrons left, unhappily. it's not right that the rest of us are made to suffer like that. someone, whether it be a manager/owner/flight attendant/etc. SHOULD take an inititive to say something....or do something. if nothing's said or done, that's a sure fire way to lose some business....(even though it may not be all that much of a loss).

i used to be cabin crew.... Rules have to be respected. Infants(0 to 24 months)have to seat on parent's lap restrained by a "kangaroo belt"(seat belt with a loop that attaches to parent's seat belt). Children over 2 years must be seating on their seat with seatbealt fastened during take off and landing. I think the family deserved to be offloaded and if they had flawn for the companies i was working for (won't name names 'cause it's not nice)they certainly wouldn't have got reimbursed or offered roundtrip tickets anywhere the airline flies.....

Julie and Gerry Kulesza, who were headed home to Boston on Jan. 14 from Fort Myers, said they just needed a little more time to calm their daughter, Elly. "We weren't given an opportunity to hold her, console her or anything," Julie Kulesza said in a telephone interview Tuesday.
*rolls eyes* I am SO firmly on the side of the airline. It's appalling to me how many parents believe that their child, the precious apple of their eye, is so freaking important to the world as a whole that 200 other people should have to wait while they calm her down. Whatever dudes. AND....! AND...! They got their money back, plus they got freaking vouchers for ANOTHER trip. Talk about rewarding bad behavior. Gah.

Good Lord. I read the topic as a child actually being "thrown" from the plane...I had visions of babies being sucked out the hatch. EEEP.
As far as the actual story, yep, parents need to be more active in calming their kids down. It shouldn't take a stranger pointing it out.

Our 8 year old daughter has flown many many times. Her first flight was when she was 11 months old. You have to first of all make sure you have plenty of things to keep them occupied, especially when they are 3 years old. My daughter would've NEVER acted like that. I just don't understand. PARENT your kids for Christs sake. The airline did the right thing.

I saw this family on TV this morning and their daughter was getting antsy during the 3 minute interview. Yup. Stop the world! I can't control my kid. You'd think they live in CA. ;D

Everyone and their dog knows that your not supposed to fly if you're having ear problems....and they flew after the kid (supposedly) had surgery?
