I think the father needed the time out..
THe flight was already delayed 15 minutes.. And you didn't have time to console your child..
If it was my kid.. I would had dragged him out from under the seat and plopped his butt into the seat, buckled him up.. and that would be that.. And if he was hitting me, he would in trouble..
Or I myself would of had dragged his butt off the plane and changed my ticket if he acted like that..
Spoiled brats are a nuisance to the nineth degree.. And parents don't curb this they might have the next Paris Hilton on their hands..

I think parents should go back to beating their children. Maybe not in the open but the "wait until we get home" look. Not child abuse, either. All I know is that when I was a kid, all I had to get was "The Look" from my mother and I knew if I did not stop what I was doing immediately then there would be severe consequences. Guess this is why I don't have children yet. Today's whacked out society would lock me up.

Can I just say one thing:
"Spare the rod, spoil the child"
Period.
And people wonder why we have a society of young people who have zero self-control and no concern for anyone else except themselves. When we were growing up, if we acted up we were spanked. And at that time, they still gave pops at school for misbehaving also.
You know, it's quite scary... that generation will be running our country at some point in the future.

The airline was FAR too generous with the family. The Father is an IDIOT!!! Now this little girl needed to be in her seat! Geez didnt the parent realize that she needed to be seated before take off??? Yea they wanted to hold her while take off, now if that would have happend & the little girl would have hurt herself, what do we call it? LAW SUIT!

The kid and her parents were on Good Morning America and OF COURSE, the dad made an excuse....she had ear surgery and must have had ear pain on the trip down and was upset about getting back on the plane for the return trip. Whatever, dude... I wanna Smack that kids Father! The Airline did nothing wrong, Airlines are on a schedule, there are other passengers that have places to be, wern't they thinking about them? Now if it weather related then what can they do? But when a (bratty)child is not being co-operative, then thats the parents job to get her secured & they should have got her ready for the flight before boarding! Its more the parents fault then the child!

When we were growing up, if we acted up we were spanked. And at that time, they still gave pops at school for misbehaving also. You know, it's quite scary... that generation will be running our country at some point in the future. Amen to that. Having taught preschool and waited tables, I can't tell you how many times I have seen a child who needed a couple of whacks to the fanny. Of course I not advocating child abuse. There is NO fine line between discipline and abuse. But if I had EVER hit my parents, the wrath of God would have come down on me......and likewise with my children. They have never even thought about it. Kudos to Air-Tran. I had a parent once, when I taught preschool say she was going to call her pediatrician to find out how to get her four year old son to take a plane trip without being a nuisance.........that, everytime mention of the plane trip came up, the child would say he wasn't getting on the plane. Call her pediatrician for advice? Whoa!! I say, let's turn joining the mile-high club into a totally different sport. Let the lavatory also serve as the place to take unruly children--in the words of Bill Cosby, invite them in there to play with the blue water. I'll tell you what else irritates the shit out of me. These kids who have those roller-skate shoes and are almost knocking me over in the grocery store, while I'm walking the dog, or in restaurants and other public places, while their parents are nearby in sheer oblivion.

I saw the mom of this toddler on Inside Edition earlier (or one of those type of shows). I'm with the others... Airline did the right thing.

Well a distant relative of mine made a plane return to the gate because her 1 year started fussing and crying as the plane prepared for take off. She called the stewardess and told her to turn the plane around. The woman said they couldn't and my relative ssaid she was a flight attendant (she was before she had the baby) and she knew the plane could turn back. So it did and they got off the plane. She then took the baby to a psychologist to make sure she wasn't traumatized.
If I was on that plane I'd be pissed.

On the flight going to New York in December there was a mother with her young teen aged autistic child. At one point the girl got upset and started screaming and hit her mother repeatedly.
They should have thrown them both off the plane.
/end sarcasm.
Keep in mind, I get annoyed when parents don't discipline their kids and bratty kids ANNOY the hell ouf of me but I can't help but remember when my son was 2 1/2 and we took that 6 hour flight to New York. He cried nearly the WHOLE time. He was/is a sensitive kid and had a lot of sensory issues. For instance, he couldn't stand to hear a vacuum or the feel of sand on his feet, and giving him a bath was a hellish ordeal that would involved him screaming bloody murder.
I know a lot of people probably hated me on that plane but it was a lot more taxing on us than anyone around us, believe me, and it had NOTHING to do with discipline.
