According to Warren, JT did play a few guitar parts on the Notorious album. He has guitarist credits as recent as Paper Gods as far as I’m concerned.

The instrumental version of this demo was titled Notorious. If you listen to the bass, you can see how it evolved into the bass of Notorious. Same with the vocals in the chorus, but not so obvious at first listen.
