I do the same as RioDuranie. Check caller ID, if it's no one I know, or an "unknown number", I simply don't answer. If they want to get a hold of us badly enough, they'll leave a message. Sometimes the telemarketers actually DO leave a message, which makes me think they are at least polite. More often they don't. Especially if they are using automatic dial which hangs up when the answer machine goes on.
DoNotCall lists worked well when we were in Massachusetts. I think the ones in Maine are useless.

I do some part-time work that requires me to sometimes run numbers I want to call through a "do not call" list. If it's on the list, NO calls. In Florida it seems to be working pretty well. You can register all your phones and I find that many people forget about their cell phones. Also, I *thought* that the Do Not Call list was a national registry???
Which leads me to....I know many people who have disconnected their house phones and simply use their cells 24-7. Would save some money per month, No?
I'm on the list and don't get many calls......
Oh, and like iami and RioD, I simpy don't answer the phone if I don't know who is calling. Especially if I see a 1-800 number. If they *really* need me they can leave a message or they'll know my cell #.

Just tell them that your dog told you that you can't talk to them and besides you need to go out and buy more aluminum because the mother ship will be coming soon so there is no reason for you to even talk to them! ;D I love your idea......must use sometime! I have caller ID, if I dont know the number then I just dont pick up
