I had the back pain like a beeaatch... That's when they decided I needed the Epidural.. My water decided to break just as the doctor was putting the needle in my spine.. It was great for a while.. I couldn't even feel the contractions.. When the back pain returned they knew it was time to push.. and ten minutes after starting push.. I gave birth to a 6 pound 14 ouch baby boy at 8 pm..
But I was induced the morning the day before.. and the Epidural wasn't until the next afternoon.. I'm not going through that again..

Oh god! I feel for anyone who's gone thru labor like that! I feel like such a wuss. My first was five hours long, baby boy at 6 lbs 7 ounces. My second was three hours long, baby girl at 5 lbs. My last was seven hours, baby boy at 5 lbs. I thought I went thru hell, but let's face it, I'm a complete weenie to be thinking that compared to the stories I'm reading here!

When I had back labor with my first, the : was so funny (now that I think back on it...not then, of course).
I wanted to do it naturally (well, as naturally as possible with a dozen wires coming from my body). I was refusing the epidural for a couple hours with back labor. I went to the bathroom, and I started crying. The : looked in and said, "Why are you crying?"
I whispered (I whisper through pain...why, I don't know!), "Because it huuuuuurrrrrts!"
"Do you want an epidural, honey?"
"No, I don't."
Mario was trying his best to comfort me, but his mere touch irritated the hell out of me, and I said (in a whisper), "STOP DOING THAT!!!"
A few minutes later, the : comes in again. "Yes, I would like an epidural, please," I whispered with tears in my eyes. I couldn't do it!
"Oh, good!" she said, as she clapped her hands together. "I'll call the doctor."
The anesthesiologist didn't like when husbands were present for the epidural procedure, so Mario went out for a smoke. When he came back, I said, "Hi, honey. I feel so much better!"
"Yeah, I see," he said, with a smirk.
It was bliss from that moment on.

Because I don't get a chance to talk about this stuff very much, I'll add my experience with my second. Labor and delivery, natural or not, is an amazing experience. So much so that sometimes I wish men could experience it.
Anyway, number two was induced. I was scared to death of inducement, but I acquiesed to it because my doc was going on vacation. If I had known that he would be there at the last minute, I would have thought differently.
I cried while changing into a gown because I was scared of inducement. Mario came in and tried to comfort me, then talked to the : because I felt she was "rushing" me. She softened toward me after that.
I was induced, and the labor pains started, and having such a good experience with the previous epidural, I sorta "gave in" to it. I *thought* I could get through the second without painkillers (no back labor), but I gave in anyway. The same anesthesiologist who did my first epidural did my second. However, this time, it went in crooked, and only half my body was numb. Weird.
So, I did feel lessened labor pains, but this time, I *wanted* Mario's help. He helped me visualize by talking about peaceful scenes. He *thought* he wasn't helping much, and he said so, but I reassured him that I needed him this time.
I felt ready to push, but my doctor wasn't there. They tried to delay, but my body wouldn't. Finally, I began pushing, just as my doctor, LITERALLY, came into the room like Kramer from Seinfeld....sliding across the floor. He didn't even wash up; he just directed the resident on call about what to do, without ever touching me.
After giving birth, I was in good spirits, and I teased my doc's trainee, who had washed up, on how unsure she seemed on delivering the placenta. She kept massaging my abdomen in the wrong place....OY!
