Maybe Proposition is a bit filler-ish...but the rest isn't.
And cheers to Katy for making it about her...once again...

I hold Notorious pretty highly. I think So Misled is probably the weakest on there, followed by Meet El Presidente. But there are songs on there that I absolutely love and consider them some of Duran's absolute best, like American Science, Vertigo, Winter Marches On and Proposition. However, I get the feeling that the new album will not sound like any of those 4 songs I picked out! My sister (another Duran lifer) LOVES Notorious. It's her favorite album, so this should make her happy. If it sounds like Get Lucky and Uptown Funk then I'll be happy.

I never considered it before but So Misled is indeed the weakest track, perhaps followed by Hold Me (even though I love the track as a fav, its very weak, and needed more orchestration perhaps more like AVTAK). But So Misled... The song should be about anything other than what is sung. "Safe, it said". How about.. In the summer of a London life, "love" she said. Was a month before I realised, I was a fool instead She was such an unnatural choice, but she's gonna steal me back. Take it easy on a shattered heart, don't wanna feel the cracks. I will die from being used, and I will fight to be abused, but I I I! should not be, so Misled. Anyway.. if the new album is based on Notorious then it can only be a good thing, unless some bright spark decides to marry funk with hip-hop to make funk-hop! Apart from a few indulgent albums, DD have always tried to 'make the big comeback' with each album, so I feel this will be another comeback of comebacks. Fingers crossed.

I love the WHOLE of Notorious, except Meet El Presidente! I just hope that they're not doing an AYNIN job (basically a Rio 2) making a Notorious 2. If the funk is there I'll be happy. I do like AYNIN and they needed to go back to basics with that album and it did pay off critically but not again! I prefer it when duran are being creative, not using old tricks... That last sentence is exactly how I feel too. I love when the guys go out of the box and try different sounds- which I think is the exact reason I love Medazzaland and RCM as much as I do. I like when they venture out and actually work creatively, not just rehash old things because it's what worked for them on previous albums. I know I'm in the minority there but that's alright. And going back to what coolbarn said about Katy's tweet- I'm behind by a lot, I know- if it was just this one tweet I would say she was just excited about hearing new stuff. But the fact that she consistently has this attitude of 'hey I get early access to the band before you guys' is what bothers a lot of people. I understand that she's a fan, but someone in her position really needs to be a bit more respectful of said position and not use it to make other people feel negatively. That kinda went off on a ramble, sorry.

I love each album for its different direction...and to me, that's just one of the reason I love Duran Duran. In discussing Notorious, I think each track is solid but the weakest among them is "A Matter of Feeling."
Notorious was created with the funk idea of the 80s. Nile can still get down with that but Mark Ronson and Mr. Hudson are going to create a funk of today (i.e. "Uptown Funk"). I honestly don't think it's going to be a Notorious 2...and let the record show that I never thought of AYNIN as Rio 2. I just never saw the connection except a great pop album. I think these masterminds (Nile, Ronson, Mr. Hudson AND Duran Duran) are going to release something great!

For the record, I never thought of AYNIN as Rio 2 either. I think Girl Panic sounds more like GOF, especially the drum breakdown section. I guess you could say Other Peoples Lives still comes from the Friends of Mine roots of just seeing newspaper headlines and singing about them. Mediterranea feels a bit gushy and wavey like Tel Aviv. Come this think of it, Blame The Machines sounds more Planet Earth or Faster Than Light. In fact I'd liken it more to DD1 than Rio.

I'd liken it more to Seven & The Ragged Tiger (although AYNIN is superior IMO); synth-pop music that is fun to listen to with a couple of great slower tracks. The first album was too 'rock' to be compared with AYNIN, whilst Rio is a perfect blend of pop and rock and is incomparable in any era!
