Is this the same as the the digital version on i tunes? (With the the annoying sound effects? No, it doesn't have the annoying sound effects! It is a new 'mix' of the live performance, and it sounds great! If there is one thing I should 'complain', then it is the fact that 'Rio' is not in the place where it should be. But this was also with all the other previous AS THE LIGHTS GO DOWN releases. It sounds and feels somehow strange (for me). GREAT RELEASE though!!! I guess my curiosity is how does it sound different from the remaster of the Arena CD that was done a while back?? I do know that that particular one was remixed because you can clearly hear the percussion louder than before. I'm hoping someone would least send a few sample rips to demonstrate.

While I haven't done an extensive comparison between the original Arena and the remaster it's unlikely that the remaster of Arena is also a remix. The percussion was always very present on Arena. A remaster often changes the balance of the original mix. I think that's what you're hearing.
I'm still awaiting my copy so I cannot check on the sleeve but the credits on discogs still list Jason Corsaro as the mixing engineer so that is either an error or it isn't a remix.
So that leaves me wondering what they actually used for this record. As other people claim the sound effects are missing then my guess is that they used an original mix that was made for As The Lights Go Down on which the sound effects were later added by the video production team.

I think you're getting into semantics but basically I wanted to compare the sound of this new vinyl version to the version that was on Arena released a while back... regardless I feel like they did a great job with the reissue of Arena but I'm not sure it justifies me spending another 40 or $50 on yet another vinyl reissue of the same tracks.

I agree Like give us the full gig, let us trully re live it & DONT cut GOF & therefore kill it from how it was intended. Witnessing DD play GOF "in all" its 12 minute glory (during the SBS tour) further differentiated DD from EVERY other act at the time and by act at the time I mean from a "generation" perspective. Thats my opinion anyway !

A resumé of the comments on ATLGD from Steve Hoffman forum (https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/ :
"The Duran Duran really sounds excellent. But you can't tell me these aren't the same performances that are on Arena. Maybe a different mix for sure but still the same performance. That said Arena never sounded this good. "
"Duran Duran has a slightly dinged corner but not enough to be offensive, although some of the performances sound just like Arena, especially Union Of The Snake and Planet Earth, some of Simon's vocalisations are exactly the same."
"Duran Duran/As the lights go down. As pointed by others, fantastic show, puts "Arena" to shame. The colored vinyl sounds great in my system."
"Duran Duran As The Lights Go Down - Really nice pressing, sounds clean and crisp and the concert itself is great"
"Got the Pink Floyd and Ramones, couldn't believe that the Duran Duran was gone so quickly (I was 25th in line). I called a few other shops and they were sold out as well. The owners of the first place said they had gotten 6 of them."
"We had three copies of the Duran Duran. No interest at all - still there when I left yesterday."
"...the times they are a changing. 80s stuff that would have held little interest just a few years ago is now outselling some of the more trad classic cannon. In my nearest store the live Duran Duran album went out of stock way ahead of the Floyd. So is this a recognised thing in the industry now? "
"-Duran Duran "As The Lights Go Down" sounds flawless. Everything about it puts "Arena" to shame.
-Totally agree. It sounds incredible and the packaging is gorgeous - such attention to detail. This is how 'Arena' should've been released."
"In terms of aesthetics, the packaging for the Duran double LP is completely beautiful - it makes you wonder why the same level of care and detail isn't taken with every record release. Just stunning. There were only two copies at my chosen store, so I'm very lucky to have it. "

Nice. My store had several copies of the Pink Floyd LP (and no DD), but demand for the mono version of an LP that can be found in any 2nd hand record store is probably not that high.
And even many of us here are (approaching) 50+ so that means PF fans from back in the day are 65+

Just got my copy today.
What a massive disappointment. Muffled, distant, lacking any clarity. Not surprised really as this release was pointless to begin with.
My OG copy of Arena beats the pants off this travesty.
