I was going to ask if Nile ever actually worked with Andy in DD--I had forgotten about Wild Boys and those initial Notorious sessions. And the Astronaut demos.
Personally I would have found this moment awkward, like bumping into an old workmate who was fired (I guess literally what this was). But of course, Nile being as nice as he is, just sees Andy as an old friend and a great musician!
Thanks for posting, Andre!

I think Andy has always had a high level of respect for Nile.

I had forgotten about Wild Boys and those initial Notorious sessions. And the Astronaut demos. I don't recall if it was ever elaborated on, but it sounded like from one source that Andy contributed his Notorious parts while it was just him and the engineer in the room at the time. Obviously, Nile would have had to have looked those things over at some point. But they certainly did get their time in during the early Astronaut sessions and writing Wild Boys and such!

Interesting. I only remember vague things about Andy during the Notorious sessions, like he would only come when the other guys weren't around, or some such. Maybe I'm totally misremembering. Regardless, I wonder if Nile helped keep the calm during the Astronaut sessions and kinda helped Andy and the rest to ease back into a comfortable writing environment. I can see Andy being perhaps a bit more respectful of Nile and his opinion. I mean, Nile is just such an infectious positive energy!

Might be something to that, although who knows really. Agreed on Astronaut as well. I suspect with his background with everyone at the time, it made sense that he could be seen as someone they all could settle on to help through those initial reunion days. Or at least when they started trying to make their sessions into a coherent album, ultimately! Unfortunately, the record company politics and amount of time that passed kept them from releasing that version in the end, but at least some of his work made it into the final product.

I read somewhere that at the time of the Notorious sessions Andy was already checked out of the band mentally, but for legal reasons his lawyer advised him to contribute to the album. I also read in the same place that the rest of DD knew this and wanted nothing to do with Andy. I read that the rest of the band and Nile were out celebrating Nile's birthday when Andy went the studio to provide his legally required contributions.
