Two more...
You have worked with artists as diverse as Beck, Biggie, P. Diddy, She Wants Revenge, Nine Inch Nails, Duran Duran and BRMC....who is on your bucket list of bands/artists to work with?
What did you think of Duran's subsequent output following the Reportage sessions such as All You Need is Now and Paper Gods?

#10 - How did you (Michael) feel when you 1st heard RCM after Duran / Sony abandoned everything that WAS "Reportage"?

ROGER's "comments" on RCM:
"We delivered an album to Sony that was a natural-sounding, almost rock album, and they were like: 'We need something a bit pop, do you fancy doing a couple of tracks with Timbaland?'
That whole project was a nightmare", Roger claimed.
Roger Taylor added: "The thing was, we got an opportunity to work with Timbaland, so we thought: 'Great, let's go for it'.
When Timbaland saw the guitar and the bass and the drums come in to the studio, I think he was mortified, because everything's in a box for those guys...... "

If they did this for “Record Day” it would be be the most successful vinyl release they would have had in 30 years or so. The problem is whoever controls what they actually do hasn’t got a clue. And it’s a Sony master probably, a company they are no longer affiliated with and that does not have any interest to release something Duran related But Sony rejected it, right? So how would they have any kind of rights to it? Wouldn’t ownership revert to the band?

Here are the questions I want to know the answers to. Yeah I have asked some forbidden ones; it's up to Michael whether he wants to dodge any or all of them! Apologies in advance if any of these have already been asked or been paraphrased 1) How would you rate the members of Duran Duran as musicians and songwriters? Did any members surprise you with their talent? Conversely did you expect more from any of them? 2) In the studio how did Duran Duran compare to other bands you have worked with? Did they write all together, or in little groups, or as individuals? 3) Who is the loudest in the studio (ie - is there a distinct leader/s that the others follow)? Who is the quietest? 4) Were the band open to your suggestions? Did they ever chop down one or more of your ideas down before it even took root? 5) It is alleged that Nick and Andy (in particular) would not always see eye-to-eye. Did you ever notice any tension or difficulty between the band members? 6) Would you like to work with Duran Duran again? (Note: If the answer to this question is "yes", then you might as well ignore the answers to most of my other questions )

WAY more garbage on RCM than "gems" Just my opinion... Completely agree. I count zero flawless songs on RCM, and only a couple that even come close to "gem status". Cry Baby Cry doesn't have glaring weaknesses, but as it actually sounds like Duran Duran, and is so much better than most of the other songs, I'm not surprised it was left off the album. She's Too Much comes very close to qualifying as a gem, with a nice, simple, 'Chilli-Pepper-esque' guitar riff, and a pretty melody with touching lyrics. But the rest of the instrumentation drags it down, a consistent criticism of the entire album. Boxful O' Honey is another one that comes close, and when the bass and drums kick in at the beginning of Verse 2 the song really starts to sound amazing. But of course Duran have to spoil a beautiful verse with a chorus that kills all the momentum. And that's the problem with BFOH - the construction is terrible. You think the song is going somewhere, and then it slows down. Then it takes off again for a little bit, but then stops. The chorus needed a lot more oomph; the song can't make up it's mind whether it's a catchy, mid-tempo ballad, or simple, acoustic ballad, and suffers as a result. RCM is like Paper Gods, although at least PG was half-full of decent material. The instrumentation is generally awful, boring, and utterly forgettable. Theoretically re-record both albums with a decent bass-guitar, interesting drums (no bloody machines or programming), and cut the garbage out of the songs (especially the distracting, long-winded, self-indulgent sections) and you could make a very decent compilation.

Sometimes it's like they're ashamed of being a band or something.
