Don’t think we need to re-litigate RCM on this thread. Head over to the Steve Hoffman forums to read some great takes on this era, the drama behind the scenes and the album itself. And by all means, please add to that thread as I would love to see it jumpstarted in 2020.

I agree about not "too much RCM" here BUT that being said.....
It think it is important to discuss it here on some level.
RCM "existing" was the DIRECT result of REPORTAGE being shit-canned.....

RCM "existing" was the DIRECT result of REPORTAGE being shit-canned..... Totally agree S7th & Sony saying that we are not going to support Repotage because we don't think it's sound will sell so change the album's direction and work with another "modern" producer ! so what are DD to do ? by the time they did AYNIN, neither did Warner support that LP and AYNIN was released independently it was obvious then that DD were going to change thier sound (in order to get big label support) with PGs this is makes sense, think about it, like I personally had no desire in 2015 to make less money than I did in 2011 so why would DD, because they're comfortable already doesn't cut it. Now I ain't in the same league as DD but I'm not renting, there's cars in the driveway and I holiday with the family heaps. Not bragging just saying I like many don't wish to make less of an income than I have in years gone by. sometimes we do a job we don't enjoy as much simply for the money or more money, eg pay increases and incentives. kinda sad yet it's the way of it find comfort people in that at least DD have the enDURANce to carry on & still be in the game coz they don't have to yet if they must, obviously there's got to be something there to make it worth their while. The new album will be different to PGs yet will sound modern and that means "current radio like" in parts because DD want a big label supporting !

#11 - Duran has said that REPORTAGE was sort of a "return to their roots". That would (to me) mean that it sounded like a CROSS between the DEBUT album and RIO. Do you agree with that? Strong Bass & Drums, Heavy guitar (in spots) Syths that sounded like "synths" NOT "beeps and whistles" ect?

Are these what you remember?
Anything you would ADD or DELETE from this list that is missing or not correct?
Track Lisiting / Known Songs titles for tunes on REPORTAGE
"Criminals in the Capitol" "48 Hours Later" "Transcendental Mental" "Traumatized" "Angel Fire" "Under the Wire" "Judy, Where Are You?" "Naomi Tonight" "You Ain't Foolin' No One" "Cathedral" "Faster" "Finally" "Lions and Wolves" "Midnight City" "Under Snow"

Yeah I agree with that S7 & like many would love to hear/own it but unfortunately Sony would not support it and asked DD to work with a modern producer/asked DD for more radio friendly songs. I imagine Warners wouldn't have wanted to support it either coz it's how labels think. The big labels didn't want AYNIN did they, yet much of the hardcore DD fans loved it, but we are the minority & not the masses It is criminal that a band like DD has to adapt yet they have no choice. To have once been the biggest band on the planet with EMI and to then release every other LP independently eg shock/tape modern/Hollywood records doesn't quite "feed" the band. Its unfortunate and criminal but just like we do a 9 - 5 job which we may not absolutely 100 percent love so are DD in a similar boat. Its a compromise-work lifestyle thing my fave DD LPs are Rio Medazzaland & the debut, I love a raw while polished sound (go figure) but the industry seem to want no bass and electronic drums these days it's criminal & unfortunate I know, it's also not fair that an artist must adapt, yet it's also business and I don't agree with the predicament that bands like DD find themselves in

Q: did Mr Patterson produce Instant Karma? Love the sound on that, and hoped that Reportage would carry that feel. It really sounded like the band gelling to me. And then AT left again...!
