Well, my opinion is clearly not going to mean anything since I don't worship the grown Warren walks on. But I'm going to give it anyway before taking a hiatus. If this is all there is to talk about here (how great warren is) then I have no further need of this forum. I mistook this for a duran duran forum.
Anyway, here goes: I don't give a flying f*ck how amazing an instrumentalist is, if they are bad for the band, they are BAD FOR THE BAND. Warren was a disease. He slowly degraded everything I loved about Duran Duran away until they were unrecognizable to me. I QUIT LISTENING TO DURAN DURAN BECAUSE OF WARREN! I got so sick of his over-dominating guitar bs (and I found his weight lifting/health obsession to be a most nauseous personality trait btw) I moved on. I started back up after hearing AYNIN. And I never even knew they had a "reunion" (until I came here) because I didn't care. THAT is what Warren's contribution to the band did for me. Sure there was the Wedding Album. I loved many of the songs on that album. But I sure didn't and don't listen to it much because I just don't enjoy the over abundance of Warren.
So yea, They freakin FIRED him. So what. And, yea, he made some good music with them. So What. And yea, they hired Andy again, and he just repeated his lame ass behavior AGAIN. So freakin what. They are still together now and some of what I remember loving about them is there now too.
So I'm glad they fired Warren's arrogant ass before he sucked the life completely out of them. And I'm glad they're rid of Andy too. Good for them. I'm glad they're still around now.
And with that, I'm out. You may carry on with your Warren worship uninterrupted.

Hello all. Just wanted to say that I miss Warren in Duran Duran quite a lot; when he was part of the band not only did their sound evolve from album to album making each one unique, but also the live performances of the band CHANGED from tour to tour. Even set lists changed during the same tour. As we all know, some songs always have to be included, like HLTW or Rio, etc. During the WC days on each tour these songs were reinvented to fit the sound of their latest album/concept, so we got funky HLTW, electro HLTW, accoustic HLTW & even a punk version of it, and so on. As much as love the band, since the reunion they have been playing almost exactly the same songs (adding 3 to 5 from a new album) in the exact same version/way and it's become boring. Not to mention the amount of albums that are completely ignored when it comes to live shows.0 Warren had an artistic impact on DD that I just miss very much. If in another 5 to 7 years there happens to be a new DD album out, I just know I will be seeing them live with 4 new songs (5 if you are really lucky) and the exact same set list played just like it has been done since the reunion. They seem to have takenl the risk free way and just settle down with the easy/lazy live set. I love the lights and projections, but I deffinitely love music much, much more.

Umm here we go again with the great debate.
I'll keep it short unless off-course I feel the need to copy and paste my A vs W perspective which I once upon a time posted on another board. Also I won't be delving deeply into which DD member said what and when coz that's a good argument too yet I'd rather focus on/my love. Love for the music's sake rather than what we've all read in interviews etc
Hmm let's see Warren never left DD..................he unfortunately was asked to.
Umm 1 Andy left DD the first time to be a rock n roll singing hero, yes indeed, as we all know he wanted SLBs job but doing it solo, just him and his guitar. Err 2 Andy then left DD a second time too by pushing his head strong uncooperative mind all the way without compromise. Where the other 4 members who were all very much on the same page, released a statement to say 'this isn't working with Andy' or was it 'we've reached an unworkable gulf?
Don't get me wrong I LOVED what Andy did with DD 'however' playing on ONLY 4 studio albums with DD is not what a true long lasting relationship is based on.....? I'm in love with DD's music (aren't we all on this board) and IN this relationship for the long term/haul, just like many of us are.
I'm talking love here, a longer lasting relationship and let's face it WC contributed MORE musicality to DD than AT, aside from what guitar style is personally preferred amongst us. This is a fact !
Think to yourself 'IF' NR or JT or RT and perhaps even SLB had ONLY played on 4 of the 14 DD studio albums in total, Umm Where would your heart be? For the individual member I mean. (I know I shoulda been a lawyer)
Love has an element of 'loyalty' in my book and I guess in the case of AT when compared to WCs love for DD, AT showed it differently.
I massively loved DD in the early 80s and just when I believed I couldn't love them anymore, in the 90s my love for DD grew to an even stronger FAR, FAR greater extent. Much to my thankful and pleasant surprise. How COOL is that !
I can't deny Warren never played a role in enhancing this 'far greater admiration' coz he did indeed & what I do know is that in the 90s AT didn't or couldn't coz he had decided to be a solo singing artist, however short that career actually was.
I guess for Mr AT, AVTAK and the The Wildboy's tracks (Rogers & Edwards produced) were not 'rock n roll enough' for him despite their MASSIVE GLOBAL SUCCESS. Seriously Andy T, what were you thinking and what a time to do the dirty on our band which at the time the world had termed the fab 5. Ohh Ok I guess you weren't thinking. I'll leave that one right there.
Warren is, was and I guess always will DD's innovative virtuoso who had a passion for DD who's contribution lasted far greater than AT ever had. (sorry, but it's true)
Check this clip out, I'm sure some/most are familiar with it anyway.
If you think you've heard it all before think again, listen to all 7min for all its innovative 'glory-ness' which Warren did so well when it came to re-inventing or freshening up DD's previous recordings. (Skinburn & Diatribein know exactly what I'm talking about as do others too I'm sure).
Ohh and if you are gonna listen to the clip, do yourself a favour find the headphones & Play it LOUD, in order to loose yourself within it. Please don't think it's over at the 5.40sec mark coz the track thankfully gets the extended treatment. Isn't that what it's all about, making something that feels SO good, last longer?
Lastly, in my book,
Warren C was most certainly, SOMETHING OF A PHENOMENON...........indeed !!!

Cucurullo is RIDICULOUS e basta! Poveraccio!!!! In the interest of balance, we need stupid posts like this to keep the conversation going. Carry on. Hey @, Didn't you always refer to Warren as cockroach, or am I mistaking you for someone else? LOL

They seem to have takenl the risk free way and just settle down with the easy/lazy live set. I love the lights and projections, but I deffinitely love music much, much more. What a great post - all true. And I love that last line - the lights and projections are nice, but the music is what matters. That's what got me into Duran Duran, and that's what keeps me here. The additional frills and flourishes are welcome and also enjoyable, but the music is the star of the show and the hero of the dish! To elaborate we all know that the vast majority of regulars on this board are going to see Duran play live when they visit their neck of the woods, and most of us are going to love the concerts. Three of the most memorable nights of my life have been at Duran Duran shows. Here's the thing - Duran KNOW that we are going to enjoy seeing them live because for most of us it is a relatively rare thing and we never know if this tour is going to be the last time they ever play in our country. And even if Duran put on the "RCM in its entirety plus special encores Downtown, The Sun Doesn't Shine Forever, and Last Night In The City" tour, I would still go and have a great night even though most of the music would (relatively speaking) be rubbish. Duran Duran are awesome. And we fans are often far from perfect, but we keep the band going and they keep us going However what Duran generally do, but don't always seem to portray to the fullest, is that love, respect, and loyalty is a two-way street. I will always love them because of how they have changed my life and how they have enriched my life. I will always respect them because they have persevered and continue to endure when most pop bands are starting to decompose by about now. And they will keep my loyalty by continuing to make music I enjoy; generally they do a decent job of this, but I certainly don't want future albums to be trend-chasing, young sounding, chart hoping, desperate copies of current music any time soon like on Paper Gods. The thing is Duran COULD do more than they currently do. If they were so desperate to increase the love between them and their fans, as they are as desperate to have a hit with the teenagers, then this relationship we share could be made EVEN MORE amazing. If they bothered listening to feedback they would know that diehard fans are calling out for more collectibles, more versions of rarities, on more formats. They would know the diehard fan wants to hear some different songs live, or, as mentioned, if you have to play Hungry Like Wolf/Girls On Film/Rio/Planet Earth etc etc, then some awesome remixes to keep us (and the band) guessing and fresh would be nice as well. They could spend a couple of minutes a week producing more videos for diehards to enjoy. How is the tour going? How does it compare to other tours? Will they be changing the setlist at all, even if only by one song? What song from the last concert got the best response? What got the worst response? Have any places changed since they played there last? How do their albums stack up now after listening to them again? What have they got planned for the future? ETC ETC ETC. There is ALWAYS something for the band to talk about, as new music, and new technology, and new everything is always coming out and the world is always changing, so surely they could take a few minutes in the week to make a vlog to interact with the diehards and let us know they value us as much as we value them. As the old saying goes - "The best way to get a friend, is to be a friend". If Duran started to try as hard as possible to improve even further the good relationship it has with its current fans, then they would feel more love, we would feel more love, and everybody involved would be happier as a result. And isn't happiness in life what it's all about? Not money, or material goods, or chart positions, or success. Those things are nice, but there are plenty of people who have had them plus more who committed suicide. Fundamentally they weren't happy. DISCLAIMER: Don't give me the nonsense "No, don't be silly, the band doesn't owe us anything and we don't owe them anything" even though it's true. No the band doesn't owe us anything. They don't have to do anything they don't want to do. If deciding to quit tomorrow and never releasing another piece of music and totally retiring from the spotlight suited all four members, then cool if that makes them happy then so be it. I'm just saying if they DID want to improve their relationship with the fans, if that is what matters and makes them happy (rather than money and chart positions) then they COULD do more. If they don't though, doesn't matter, no skin off my nose. Just a thought and suggestion.

Wow, warren really brings out everyone's inner writer. The truth, I guess, is somewhere in the middle of all these very polarised views. The ego, the dominance, the unquestionable skill, the adaptability, the Andy factor, the band insecurity, the pursuit of fame at the expense of creativity both live and in the studio, the gaping void that he once occupied. The miracle is that unlike the band in the main we can all rub along okay, maybe?! Like the children of a divorce going to counselling it's all coming out now, but it's all 15+ years ago, and with an adult perspective maybe we should just appreciate that they did what they could, mistakes have been made in that journey and somewhere amidst it all we have all been dragged up, leaning reluctantly on each other and the band to be flawed functioning adults ourselves. And that's a miracle in itself. I'm grateful to acknowledge the past, but only in the context of living in the present, which like everything that has gone before is imperfect. That's life!

Pictures or it didn't happen. Coolbarn if you want a personalised invoice in your inbox just say the word, childish jealousy will get you nowhere. However it might be lacking in visual content coz where it's gonna take you is a state of mind. Words wouldn't do it justice either....to quote another great "words are cheap when the mind is elastic", and I'm very elastic!
