Gawd, you three are earning free stateroom tickets on the Fail Boat. You three have totally and completely bought into the bullshitters' bullshit.
I did have a nice list of statements you guys made in your posts that I was going to correct one by one, but it's more logical to address the disease instead of the symptoms.
You see, a story begins, a little wisp of a hint, borrowed from a legitimate story, but the new tale spins off into a parallel fantasy, - it sounds plausible, and it's presented in such a way as to make itself a desirable meme. Bit by insidious bit the memes come together, and a new belief system, one that has almost no basis in reality, is not only created, but adopted and followed with a religious-like fervor.
I'll give you an example: Obama is a socialist. No, he is not a socialist, he is a centrist democrat. Democrats are not socialists. See, that's a silly little lie that no one right-leaning will correct, not even those that know it's a lie. Why not? Why are group members afraid of rocking the boat?
I'll give you another example: There's a tale going around Facebook, basically it's about a rich man taking his son to see how poor people live. The son sees that the poor people have better lives than the rich. The moral of the story is that the poor should be thankful for what they have.
Except that the story is a lie. I read that exact same story in elementary school. It's not about rich versus poor, it's about city life versus country life. See, back in the mid-20th century, the biggest portion of America's land mass was devoted to farmland, but many people were drawn to the cities. The story was one of many suggesting that country life was better. The point of the tale was to get graduating kids to stay at their parents' farms rather than adding to the congestion of large cities like New York.
But now it's in the alternate reality.
Another falsehood is pretty much anything that compares the here and now "republicans" with Ronald Reagan (who insisted that the rich should pay higher taxes, btw.) The current republicans are not centrist, are largely not moderate, but are divided among extremes. Extremely religious to the point of demanding a christian version of sharia law be enacted; extremely rich to the point of being so out of touch as to think $375,000 is not much money; extremely racist enough to suggest that a janitor's wages be divided among thirty inner-city children that will be made to scrub toilets as career training, not technical training that could get them real jobs.
Republican voters today have a belief system very different than the one they held when they were able to make decisions on their own. Interestingly, many insist that they aren't "republicans," instead they want to be known as "conservatives."
Free your minds. Get away from Fuxx Noise. Ignore Prison Planet. Don't listen to Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, David Icke, Bill O'Reilly, Alex Jones, Sean Hannity, and all the other mouthpieces, extremists, and far-right conspiracy theorists.
Well I didn't say much of this and certainly didn't call Obama a socialist though I do have problems with Obamacare. I don't watch Fox News at all. I don't agree with Gingrich and his comments about janitors because I don't think that was a good idea.
Yes I have made comments about welfare but have never said it should be eliminated because I don't want to see people starve. However, there is rampant welfare fraud with people for instance who spend the money on drugs or the people who have more kids to get more money. I speak of those people because I have known plenty like that and would like these people be cut off the system. I have also said I would like to see corporations pay more in tax and be taxed heavily if they outsource. That doesn't sound conservative to me. I am opposed to corporate welfare.
Do I want a Christian society? no but nor do I want an atheist or non Christian society either. I don't want any kids I have to not have a Christmas party at school because it might offend someone. I don't want my kids to be taught that having multiple kids with multiple people is acceptable. Or that it's perfectly fine for countries like Saudi Arabia to discriminate against women. Or that shows like the Bachelor are the way for a woman to act. I want my daughters to know that being smart is important.
Btw, before anyone accuses me of being anti poor I am far from it. I realize some are poor now because of the economy and I support allowing more people to qualify for assistance. I personally give food to a local bank and as someone who is Christian I believe it is my duty to help those less fortunate. However, when they are doing things to make it worse, then yes there is a problem. If I didn't see all the serious fraud in the welfare system I might think differently but it's a problem.
