What does it taste like without adding sugar? I assumed the sugar was included until I went to make a batch and turned the kitchen upside down looking for sugar packages. I agree, its silly to be asking about this, but nobody ever made it for me when I was young. If anything, we'd make frozen juices(open can-add water-drink up), so i'm clueless ---and I can't find sugar ;D

I haven't had it in years, but if I remember right it was pretty nasty.

It seems to have salt as a main ingredient, could that be a factor in the bad taste?

I also never had Kool-Aid as a child. I promised myself that I would never make that sugar-laden stuff for my child either. Oh well...I started buying it this summer, because it makes a tasty cool drink on these hot, hot days. I use Splenda instead of sugar, hoping that I cut out the tooth decay factor a little bit. My husband calls the blue raspberry lemonade "nectar of the kool-aid gods" hehehehe.

Not drinkable without sweetener... really sour! I use Splenda to sweeten our Kool-Aid.
The sugar-free packets have sweetener added already, but not the regular packets.

Kool aid.. my favorite kind is the red one Its gross without sugar. You an use Splenda. You can use Stevia. Stevia has a kind of funky aftertaste, so you'd have to be careful with it. if you use Splenda, its the same measurements as you would use for sugar. My mother used much less sugar than what they recommend. At the very least you're using REAL Kool aid -BOS

agree with the babelicious one. its awful without sugar. i make it with 3/4 cup of sugar and its still plenty sweet enough!
BTW its terrific mixed with homemade playdough! adds the color and cool smell in one step. for this recipe you leave out the sugar!

Yeah, without sugar it's very tart and bitter. My fave was always fruit punch, but I also grew partial to the 'sunshine punch' flavor...

Now I'm wanting some Koolaid. My favorites were cherry, lime and orange. I think they make the packets you can add to your water bottle now.
