Fantastic interview! Thanks for posting, Skinburn!
It's good that CK can be self critical enough to be an honest judge of his own work. But I do think he could have pushed them more, especially since he acknowledges that some songs were merely "jams" and that Simon's singing wasn't up to snuff.
Great insights!

A good example is Tears For Fears’ Sowing the Seeds. Ok, it’ll be 31 years by the time the remastered (5.1) boxset, LP, Pic Disc etc is released in October but it’s better late than never - and TFF did have a good excuse for the delay. I get that Sowing the Seeds is a superior album and it sold bucket loads. However, all I have to do is look at the positive response about Liberty on social media! sorry for the offtopic comment. but sowing the seeds is one of the poorer tears for fears albums. also, this special edition was finished quite a few years ago, and had been held up by the band, and label politics. they did not have a 'good' excuse, steve wilson and paul sinclair have been talking about the issues with it for ages, and the delays. tears for fears fans have it much worse than duran duran fans, because there won't be any further boxsets, and their latest album has been held up for several years also. they too also tour very briefly, and its mostly greatest hits. so don't think they are getting any breaks or favors amongst their fans. they have it a lot worse compared to duran duran fans. later -1

I don’t want to go off topic either so I’m just going to reply the once as you do really need to be put right - in a polite manner. You need to do some fact gathering about Sowing - read the current social media about the album. There is a massive buzz out there right now. Musically speaking it is in my all time top 10 albums. It was massive when it was released, spawning 4 hit singles. I saw Tears twice last year. One was from the cancelled tour of 2018 - due to Roland’s partner dying and rumours of a split within the band - to the point that Roland addressed it at the Birmingham show. The boxset started life in 2016 in preparation for a 2019 release. Plus how on earth do you know that there will be no more box sets? Nobody knows anything like that mate. But anyway - there you have it on a silver salva. Cheers.

That's your minority opinion. It was brilliant and the tour behind it as well. Fans of the band love it.

It’s right ‘up there’ as one of the most recognised album covers ever. Ok, so Famous Last Words didn’t light up the sky commercially - but 4 singles proves that the label had faith in it.

Fun track by track review. Not sure that I agreed with a lot of what they said but they were definitely passionate and entertaining. In 1990 I hated Liberty... like I was actually mad when I heard it... especially after Big Thing which I thought was a great album. At the time I remember listening to Liberty and thinking that DD took the worst song from Big Thing (Drug) and said to themselves “Yeah, let’s do a whole album of that!”. Ha! Anyway - I stepped away from Liberty and gave it some space and now I actually can really appreciate it for what it is... and I really enjoy it. To me the biggest weakness of Liberty is the lack of that hallmark DD chorus. Some stuff gets close but they just don’t consistently deliver those choruses on this album like they had done on previous albums... we were spoiled! 🤣
