i got a copy of this for christmas and i love most of it. i agree with john. it's really fresh and in touch with what is happening now.
my hubby is always saying i can find duran in anything if i try hard enough, but after listening to it, i see some influence there.
i put in astronaut immediately after it and heard a LOT of simlarities in content and production.
i, for one, am looking forward to the collaboration with timberlake and timbaland.
whaddya think?

If it means better sales, then by all means, they made a good decision. Of course, it garnered a lot of controversy, but that was before the album is even released. I for one, I cannot wait to hear what the new collaboration yields, and we may react one of two ways:
1. We will love it
2. We will hate it.
However, DD has always been known to try new things, step out and go against the grain.

*sighs* I got my head bitten of last time I commented on this, but my opinion has not changed since then, so I'll add my POV... I'm really looking forward to hearing the Timbaland produced tracks, as he always helps create a great hook. However, I still have a real problem accepting the other "guest artiste", Justin Timberlake. Apart from the previously mentioned production style of Timbaland (can't deny the groove), Timberlake's music (his vocals particularly, and those awful lyrics) has nothing that impresses me at all. I hope Justin's input is kept to the absolute minimum (about the level he was involved with Where Is the Love by the BEP - anything more, and it will become Justin Timberlake ft Simon Le Bon)...
I just wish we'd get some more concrete news from the record label, because as it stands at the moment, I'm starting to fear this album will become Duran's Chinese Democracy.

I like Timberlake's new album. So there! ;D
As to the collaboration, I don't make it a habit of criticizing something I haven't heard yet.

I like the album, as well. It's great to work out to. Numerous people have pointed out the successful collaborations that are born when older artists collaborate with newer artists (Run DMC and Aerosmith, for example), so I think Duran are doing the right thing. It's like any artist, if you don't grow and change with the times, you run the risk of becoming irrelevant.

I love Timbaland and always have. I have pretty much every CD of every artist he's ever worked with except for Nelly Furtado. Justing Timberlake as a musical artist is just a wannabe end of story. We have one every few years. However, I will see Alpha Dog because it's based on a true story. :-)
Robin Thicke is way better and doesn't get the accolades that he deserves.

I agree with the previous poster.....I don't criticize anything I haven't heard yet. I do like Justin's music (although his comment in our local newspaper about Virginia Beach basically being country rubbed me the wrong way.....HELLO, Va Beach is FAR from country, that coming from someone who is from bum fvck Tennessee!! No offense to anyone from Tennessee!! ;D). The comment could have been a joke, but if not, maybe he should do his recording elsewhere. And I have to love Timbaland, he's local (not to mention talented). Just have to wait and listen, then form an opinion.
