I think the subject header says it all, really.
Not that I'm going to pretend that I have any authority or anything, but after listening to the horrible "remix" of Skin Divers, and knowing that as their manager Wendy almost certainly had a hand in arranging it, I simply can't think of a reason to keep her on.
It's the manager's job to get work for the band, to get them noticed and get gigs for them, to do everything in his or her power to make the band as popular and successful as they can be.
But what has Wendy done? There was NO promotion for Red Carpet Massacre. Many of the venues for the tour were awful. There are NO exciting contests, banner ads on websites, no exposure of any kind for what was really the most important album of the band's career.
Instead what we got were a few lame TV appearances (X Factor?!), a record label that seems completely uninterested in helping DD along, and apparently a manager who couldn't care less about any of it.
OK, Nick, I get she's your cousin and it would hurt her feelings if you fired her. I get that you don't want her to get mad at you. But seriously, she is destroying your band. Duran Duran's latest album is in bargain bins. There isn't an article anywhere that doesn't call you "a nostalgia band", "an 80s band", or worse, "Pop dinosaurs."
The Louvre gig was great - you need more of those!! Maybe Wendy just needs a push. You need a manager who is going to put DD in the public eye and keep them there - who's going to get people excited about seeing the band, who's going to sell you as THE band to see, who's going to sell those venues out.
Now maybe Wendy can do that - but so far, she isn't. And you, or somebody, really should find out why before you're playing county fairs.
That article that came out last week, "Gagging for Glasto"? About how you were desperate to play festivals but weren't getting asked? Guess whose job it is to make sure you're asked?
Honestly - can you guys picture what Spy Matthews would have said if he'd heard that Helders remix (I know he was their road manager, but still...)? I can't picture the Berrows brothers being happy about it either. No, Spy would have phoned Helders up and said, "What is this crap? We paid you good money to produce music, not Richard around for fifteen minutes and call it done! Now you're meeting with the band in an hour and this time you're going to give me something that's radio-ready, that's professional, and that's 100% what this band is about. And if you don't think you can do it, we'll cancel that check and find somebody who can!"
Please, DD. Get a manager who knows what he or she is doing. Before it's too late.
