Actually, there is also a 1993-94 re-release of this album pressed in Europe that sounds great, isn't remastered, and has "To The Shore" on it as well as "ITSISK". It beats all the remasters of this album, hands down. I know exactly which one you mean, because I found it several years ago at a used CD place here in town (since closed). I bought it only for collection purposes, but I'll give it a comparative listen once the latest version arrives. You will be amazed in the difference. It is almost night and day and you will be glad that you purchased your used copy!

On further reflection, I remember buying it when said store was in the process of closing down, and I paid something like C$4.99 for it. I also appreciated that it had the early cover, and that it neatly side-stepped the 'Which is the definitive version--the one with 'TTS' or 'ITSISK?' by including both!

A few years back I bought a second back up copy (yes I'm obsessed) for all the non remastered releases for Rio and SATRT but not the first album! (Doh, stupid me) So the first time I purchased the first album on cd, (2003) it was the remastered version and I was disappointed! Now that I got the 2010, it is even worse! (nightmare....) So now......, I am going to get a couple of copies of the non-remastered issues.

The mistery about GOF is solved here: After a week from the UK/European release, it's a regret to note a "production/printing" error in the recent remastered version of "Duran Duran". The error, described as "level-bouncing", is clearly audible within the first three seconds of the first CD. Suchlike remarks continue to pile among Duranies through these hours. DD.com is not currently reachable at the moment, but the band is already supposed to have knowledge of the matter. However, it's now good to make some useful considerations: 1. BEFORE YOU BUY, VERIFY YOUR COPY. Whenever possible, listen carefully to the photographic intro of Girls on Film, and if you hear an odd sound-changing within three seconds of playback, you could eventually consider to not to buy, and pointing the fact out to your shop. 2. IF YOU BUY, NO FURTHER PROBLEMS ARE ISSUED. Besides of this particular imperfection, all the CD and DVD contents for the "Duran Duran" or "Seven and the Ragged Tiger" remasters should work properly anyway. If not the case, please expose it. If you buy on line, and eventually feel unhappy with your purchase, you may ask a refund (please refer to the shop's website for the actual terms). 3. CONTACT EMI. The Special Editions' content and packaging promised to be on the level with the well-known Duranies' passion, but it's no less stunning that someone proved so easy in publishing a flawed audio product on an historic album fans know since 1981. For whom have bought, there's also the option to directly contact EMI requesting a replacement for the whole item, or at least for the single flawed CD1. In a similar case involving Warner and New Order remasters, all the flawed items were replaced or refunded. Public EMI references follow: EMI Music Kensley House 27 Wrights Lane London W8 5SW Tel: +44 (0)20 7795 7000 For contacts in your own language or country, specific references are available from www.emimusic.com/about/websites

DotR, thanks for posting the analysis. You're using a very dodgy site to host them, though.
I ordered copies of the 2003 remasters of the 1st album and 7&TRT a few years ago hoping to get the gatefold editions but alas they turned out to be the jewel case editions. They're now standing on my shelf next to the original CD versions from the eighties. The artwork reproduction is quite different which I appreciate. I never took the shrinkwrap off but perhaps I should give them a spin and listen.

as I posted on the other thread- they sound much better when i crank up the base.
I've got the weird GOF intro, but I really got that more for the demo's and I can't really be bothered to go through the hassle of returning it to Amazon and getting another one shipped which may be exactly the same

I got my remasters here stateside today via Amazon.co.uk and my DD remaster skips on GOF (just like most of you forewarned). I don't think I'll send mine back either. Maybe, they will release it digitally via i-tunes (with a fix)?

Personally i wouldn't let i-tunes near my computer but then why would we have to settle for some crappy mp3s when EMI should be fixing these CDs and sending out replacements. How many times has GOF and Planet Earth appeared on Cd's including hundreds of compilations yet they still manage to screw it up. If those further two Duran Duran remasters and the Arcadia one have been remastered by Andy Walter then i dread to think what they are going to sound like and as these have already been manufactured and are just waiting to be released i feel we wil have another debacle on our hands.

Hello. Mine arrived today: it is pure.. trash. EMÎ stole my money! They remastered to worse: I can't hear it. Can we make a complaint to EMI? What is the right email adress to them? I will check the cd if it refers to any contact. J.
