Here we go, the ''Im' a bigger fan than you'' bullshit!!!! EVERYONE is entitled to an opinion, ther reason I stated how long and how many was in case somone said you know fcku all about the band etc...it was NOT to suggest how big or not a fan I was!!! rhondar you make me laugh
Whoa, whoa whoa....don't be an @ss. The fact is - YOU are the one who posted that crap about how long you've been a fan, as if that was going to substantiate your opinion. It makes ZERO difference how long you've been a fan - that's my whole f*cking point. You're still allowed your opinion regardless of who agrees or doesn't agree. There are people who have been fans way longer than I am, and I'm not saying I'm any bigger of a fan than anyone else - hardly!!! Hell, I don't give a sh*t how long anybody has been a fan. You could have showed up here yesterday off of a turnip truck and I'd still have said you're entitled to your own opinion. GEESH. Get off of your high horse, grab some coffee and settle down....
Well, after listening the preview a weeks ago, i thought this was going to be the best Duran Duran song in 20 years, at least. The chorus is, i think the best chorus they made in 20 years. But the intro and the verse, as the OP said, sound like from another song. It feels as if someone had that wonderful melody for the chorus, and then they scratch their heads wondering "how about the verse?"... and then fill it with the first thing it popped into their minds.

I've played the youtube version for some friends who I'd consider duran duran friendly. They do like the chorus but are mixed about the verse...some think that synth sound is very irritating.

I've played the youtube version for some friends who I'd consider duran duran friendly. They do like the chorus but are mixed about the verse...some think that synth sound is very irritating. The main problem about the synth is that it runs right over the vocals, and its detuned nature distorts the perception of the vocals, making it sound like Simon's singing is going in and out of tune. F***ing awful. I'm stunned they let it remain that way in the mix. I get that they wanted disonance and tension, to be resolved by the euphoria of the anthemic chorus, but it is seriously godawful, especially in the first verse. In the old days, according to Ian Little, Simon tended to sing flat and needed to be coaxed up, or pitch corrected at times. I believe his improvement in this area is a big reason why he's become a better singer over time (especially live), so...why would they want to make it sound like he can't sing in f***ing tune? The chorus is so good it saves the song, but...a little tweaking and the verse could have still been ominous and tense without sounding like an American Idol audition!

Simon's voice sounds lower and indeed better on Mediterrana. Lower in Mediterranea? What song have you been listening to? His voice is extremely HIGH in that song. Btw, Mediterranea is way better than AYNIN
