To be fair you have downloaded it for free so you've not got a lot to get upset about really. The band are not on a major label so probably do need to follow new methods of releasing albums to recoup the costs spent on recording them. I know other bands that have taken this route where they give a shorten version of the album 1st via download and then issue special physical editions later. Financially i can understand why some fans may not be happy but personally its fine by me. Nothing to get outraged about really just the way things are nowadays. Superb comment. I haven't downloaded the "free" tracks, i'll be buying the download on tuesday and the physical in feb - i wont be complaining. I'd rather complain about tax than buying a couple of things from Duran.

I think it sucks. I don't like the intentions behind it. I'll pay for the CD release and the vinyl release because I'm a collector. But I'm not giving them 9 bucks in advance. fcku that. Have you listened to the album yet? Do you already have a copy?

I say, 'Be upset if you want to be.' 'You are entitled to your opinions.'
We don't have to share the same ideals as everyone. Be individuals. Go out and have fun. Oh, also, buy atleast one version of this GREAT new album. You don't have to like the way they released it but if you don't buy it you will be missing out on some great artwork, liner notes, quality sound and something you can hold in your hands and say 'look, i have the new Duran Duran album.'

Well correct everyone is entitled to their opinion, no doubt about it.
So that being said... I will say this.
If you downloaded a free copy of the album, like A LOT of people here have and now you have decided to NOT but the digital copy, then you are downright stealing. This is MY OPINION. Disagree if you want.. no biggie,it won't change how I feel. I buy it cause I want to, not cause I have to. I told myself that if I listen to this "free" version that has been floating around, then I will buy it when it comes out for download. Why, because I am paying for what I am using. Duran Duran has given ME a lot over the years, sure I have paid for it, but the music they have given me over the years is way more valuable. I will not steal from Duran Duran.. I just won't I pay the premium for what I love..
I don't EXPECTY others to do as I do, but I THINK you should.

THAT is what I'm looking forward. Opening it up and hearing Leopard on vinyl. Then reading the liner notes like I'm being tested on it. Remember that whole thing about John feeling like he's been eating McDonalds for a few years (digital downloads) and he wanted to get back to that home-cooked feeling (vinyl)? Exactly. So you are going to buy the Vinyl and the CD?

I can't believe how cheap some of you are..complaining about $9..what is that, a couple of Big Macs? The same price as a movie ticket, and this is something you can have for the rest of your life and enjoy for years and years. Support the band, buy the Itunes and the CD and go to a concert. Do you want them to still be making great music in the future? A small price to pay for great returns. It's called being a broke college student. That $10 is gas to and from school for two days. Being a parent, kids activities, new car payments, christmas and all of my other 2000 expenses. Ah, where there's a will there's a way.

Well, I appreciate and respect your standpoint, but I don't call it stealing at all. I'm planning on buying both the vinyl and disc when they come out in February. I just have an issue with paying for something that isn't quality. Well here is the thing, IMO, I can see it better since you are buying the CD AND the Vinyl. I don't know why it's better, but it is. I am just trying to do what I consider be fair.

i think it's genius because imagine the amount of whining there'd be on this forum if the album as physical release only got duran-timed back to february, period...
this way, we can here the new songs in a timely (well, at least timely for dd) fashion and they get the advantage of being able to sell the new music to people who exclusively buy content on itunes (of which there are millions) and then they can do something more substantial by giving it the time it takes to do the physical releases properly.
you can't just make an album and get the physical product sorted in a week. it takes a lot of planning and organizing to make a physical release. you need to manufacture it, make the artwork, print the artwork, find a distributor in every country you want to release it in, a warehouse to keep it in, a way to promote it and all of that takes way more time than just putting it on itunes. add vinyl to the mix and it takes even longer. the amount of pressing plants still existing can be counted on one hand and you can't just rock up with your masters and say make me some records...it's a drawn out process that normally has a waiting list at this time of year. i bet at one point they likely did want to do it all at once, but then they would have found out making physical product takes a lot longer than it used to. so the end of feb is maybe the best that they can do...
i'm sure that they'd be happy for all the people who want to support them and who will spend the ten dollars to buy the digital release and who then spend 15-20 dollars on the cd. and i doubt they are going to be hunting down the people who think it's an affront to good taste to expect them to 'pay twice' for something.

I think the 9-track album itself is nicely done...it's been awhile since I've liked more than 2/3 of a Duran Duran album and rarely skip over anything on this one. I did initially skip over Before The Rain but it gets better 2 minutes into the song.
But I echo the sentiments behind the iTunes release. Although $10 is not a big deal, I hate the idea of having to buy iTunes tracks to own an album. iTunes has never been a preferred format and DD isn't going to make it one now. It is further complicated by the fact that I DON'T have iTunes in my region, so I couldn't download it even if I wanted to.
I do know I will get the physical release next Feb. I even bought the deluxe package of RCM although I only liked Boxful o' Honey and She's Too Much.
