I think it had to do mostly with personal issues (divorce, rehab) and in part synths being more and more important. A bit like Andy has often thought of the band (too much electronic), but then he maybe swallowed it. But I always got the impression that personal issues were priority. He also left Power Station in the middle of the second album, and WC was not involved. One thing I remember was how JT expressed about WC when they were "interviewed" by the human serviette: something along the lines that the mould of his manhood was one of the reasons why WC was not sitting at the same table of DD...

I am glad Warren is gone, too much attitude from a hired replacement guitarist who could never emulate Andy's riffs and style. I remember watching many interviews when they were talking about the early years and Warren would chime in with his comments as if he's been to the band ever since day one. Even John commented since the reunion that it was a relief to have the guy that played the part back in the band, referring to Roger on drums. Every tour since 1987 was a disappointment. it was ok for the new music if Warren wrote the parts but as a fan I think we all want to hear what we are familiar with and not have that instrument played differently by the latest session player.

I thought that the reasoning behind John leaving in the 90's had more to do with his personal life than his relationship with Warren, but who knows? He obviously wanted to seek a bit of a musical release via his solo career too, but I interpreted all of that as his interest in the band wavering in general (rather than it being the result of one member or another).

Warren could play Andy's parts in his sleep. Warren is a VIRTUOSO (John's words from the Liberty promotional vids)... I suggest you watch videos like "Friends Of Mine", "White Lines", "Careless Memories", "All She Wants Is" from 1999-2000. Listen to how he transformed those songs to a whole new level. Amazing FX and guitar work.... Warren is a true guitar God! I do respect Andy's style too, but it's "common". especially his solo work, but even his stuff in DD, you've heard before - styling wise. Listen to some INXS, Crowded House, etc... its that basic jangly rhythm stuff. Again, don't get me wrong - I do like Andy a lot... but Warren was on a whole different level. Now sure - you can like Andy better - no problem - but don't say he COULDNT play Andy's lines.... he definitely could... and more! Honestly, it could have been all down to $$$$$ Maybe a reunion was the ONLY way to make more serious $$$, and having Warren around wouldn't be the original "Fab 5".... you know - so that people who haven't listened to the band since 1984 would come around again. To me, it seems to be all a marketing/financial decision. I'm not sure if it is true or not, but I heard that in 2000 Simon actually went bankrupt or close to it?

Could someone please post a link to the "Human Serviette" interview mentioned below? I have been looking for that for a long time. Thanks

i think its funny how everyone just KNOWS why John left and all that jazz. You think what you get from the media and even DD interviews is truth? Yeah, that's my reaction, too. I don't doubt that some of the folks on this board actually have interactions with bandmembers but I find it extremely difficult to believe that bandmembers are pouring their hearts out to folks who are active on internet fan boards. Whenever these topics are discussed I always just assume that posters are engaging in extreme speculation and are too unsophisticated to realize that they should label it as such. Of course, I may be wrong, but I'm disinclined to believe that bandmembers are opening their hearts on such intimate matters. My instinct is that such matters are very complicated and if bandmembers even have clarity on them they don't share that willy nilly in a way that could be shared. rOB

I was going to mention that too. Form the "joke" interviewer in Toronto back in 2005 or so, right? That's the only time I ever recall John speaking out 'against' Warren in some sort of way. And for all we know, maybe a lot of that came because of the annoyance from the question or whatever?

You know, sometimes the speculative threads are the most entertaining.
