Not sure Simon would survive NMOM. I'd love My Own Way, Sound of Thunder, Anyone Out There, or Hold Back the Rain.

I see variations of this thread on every band message board I visit online. Unless you're one of the few acts that regularly change things up from night to night (Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Grateful Dead, et. al.), it seems like you're prone to this criticism one way or another! I think the band has more or less given hints that they're not going to shy away from the mostly classics and 5-6 new songs formula anytime soon. Roger always gave that quote about going to see Madonna and being disappointed about not seeing some certain songs, and John verified they wouldn't shy away from the hit singles in their recent online Q&A. Don't get me wrong. There's a lot of songs I wouldn't mind hearing live at one point or another. But at the same time, I'm sure there's a few reasons why they don't play certain ones. Maybe they just don't like it (My Own Way). Maybe it'd be a struggle for Simon constantly (NMOM?). Maybe it just doesn't sound that great live anyway? I'm sure some of those variables come in for a number of songs, although I don't know if that explains why maybe only 2-3 songs change over the course of a tour. I did laugh a little bit back when Nick or John said they would 'struggle' with what to put on a set list every night. It's like, "Uh.... really?" I imagine that they'll pull out the usual 5-6 new songs on tour for next year, although it seems like we know what they'll be already (Pressure Off, LNITC, Paper Gods, What Are the Chances, Danceophobia). Guess we'll see if they change it up in the future or the format of the show for a few gigs. They have given a few songs breaks in the past though. SAP was nearly absent for most of the AYNIN tour, and Come Undone and Wild Boys got significant breaks in early 2011. And weirdly enough, after eight shows since 2005, I've actually never seen White Lines live (yet). Go figure!

Agree with most of you.
1) I remember when i read White Lines was indeed surviving the Thank You mini tour, and i was so happy. Then i thought after the reunion they would drop it, and i was also happy that they kept playing. I love it every time, it works live, it makes people jump, but enough is enough.
2) Come Undone. I was extremely in love with that song in 93. By 1995 i think i was already bored with it. I think the only reason they keep playing it live is because it was a Top 10 Single in the USA. They love the idea of "hey! this was a hit and it wasn't in the 80's" thing. OUT of the live set, please.
The show needs to be at least 22 songs. At the very least. 18 is a just too short.

i personally would like to see White Lines go as well. i also think that Danceophobia is terrible live and they should consider throwing in another new track in its place. speaking of Come Undone, i was surprised by how much i liked it live this time - i think Anna Ross nailed it. that said, i do think having CU, OW and TMI all in this setlist overly represents TWA.
with so many songs to select from, i suppose we'll never have it all. the show was great and i have no complaints whatsoever. that said, it would be nice to hear GP!, IDWYL, NMOM, UOTS, ITSISK, EB, Serious or something a bit more unexpected.

Whilst I would love to hear deeper cuts, I think Duran feel the need to play to as broad of an audience as they can. The majority from night to night, I imagine, are seeing them for the first time and will probably never see them again. With 4-5 songs from the new album in the set, it's already a lot of music that the casual fan won't know — not everyone in attendance has, or will purchase, the new record. Throw in deep cuts from an obscure album in the 90s and it adds up. Of course, some will chose to delve deeper and, perhaps, become a tad obsessive like many of us here.

It's kinda strange the band isn't as daring putting up a tour setlist, given the fact that they've just released an album they knew many fans wouldn't like. Why not be as confident by stirring up the setlist? It's not as if the ticket sales would be as vulnerable to a daring setlist as record sales to music people don't approve of.
I'd really love to see them with a setlist paying homage to the whole career, and not just the six first years, and 4-5 songs of the most recent album.
But hey, fingers crossed.

they posted the Reno setlist on FB and WL wasn't played. i honestly didn't think it went over well in Puyallup - lots of people (my sister included) left to go use the bathroom while they played it. maybe they noticed, or maybe they're just trying to manage their personal energy levels from show to show? hard to say.

I wish they would do what U2 is doing right now: change out 2-3 songs every night. Most of the set list stays the same, but there are a few slots that rotate between a few different choices. That way there is at least some variety. For example, rotate White Lines with Careless Memories, Hold Back the Rain, and Union of the Snake. Or rotate Leopard with Chauffeur, Seventh Stranger, and Nightboat.

I like upbeat shows. Drop Come Undone, White Lines & Danceophobia. Add Butterfly Girl, Face For Today and Careless Memories plus 3 more deep cuts. Setlist is too short. Do instrumental version of Too Close to The Sun so Simon can get a break and drink some tea. Or Tiger Tiger? We know they know how to play this!
