Yes John has put out several solo albums.......does that make him a good singer? No. It's all a matter of opinion but John's voice to me is like fingernails on a chalkboard. I'd rather have them bring back Andy to sing lead then have to listen to John....sorry. Hmmm, which band member has made numerous solo albums, I don't think it's Simon. Out of all the remaining DD members, John does have the most experience singing lead vocals. He has a very sexy voice, it may not have the vocal range or clarity of Simon's, but I'd rather see him sing lead than some moron like Timberflake.

How about Gwen Stefani? She definitely has the stage presence and the distinct voice. As much as I hate to say it , you made your point, to me at least, with that suggestion. It also shows me, though, that the person to replace him can't be just some no-name, despite how much talent and stage presence the person has. It would have to be an established star with *current* starpower. Like Gwen Stefani. (But not Michael DesBarres--to illustrate the need for *current* starpower.) Thanks for bringing that up, C. I meant to edit my previous post and mention that whether or not you actually like the hypothetical replacement is irrelevant. However, I'm trying to get to 1,000 posts a little quicker.

Oh, and I think another consideration should be whether or not there's some mutual admiration between the guys and the prospective replacement. We know that's the case with Shears and Stefani, and I'm positive there's loads of respect between DD and George Michael.

I mentioned The Undertones in that list. Feargal Sharkey left and the band split, some of the remaining members formed That Petrol Emotion, a criminally overlooked band. I forgot to mention that I absolutely love "Big Decision"; I must hunt it down on CD sometime.

Even though Simon is pretty much what made me a fan in the first place; hypothetically I could see George Michael trying his hand at it. But, like INXS, to make it successful DD would probably have to put out brand new material with the new "voice" in order for the change to be accepted.

I've got it. It was so blindingly obvious:
Stephen Duffy!

I have Big Decision on 12"vinyl (12" for the price of a 7" single). I might also have it on my other hard drive...if you would like. I mentioned The Undertones in that list. Feargal Sharkey left and the band split, some of the remaining members formed That Petrol Emotion, a criminally overlooked band.
