I miss A & E French onion chip dip, can't get that brand here in Wisconsin. I also miss JB's Restaurant. It's been closed for a few years now sadly, they made the best biscuits and gravy I've ever found anywhere and you could get a heaping plate of them for about 3$.

Not exactly a regional food but I miss my grandmother's sour cream pound cake. Granny Bennett is the queen of cakes and pies. My grandmother didn't know how to read or write so I followed her around and wrote down the recipe in the 80's but it disappeared from my collection. Unfortunately my grandmother doesn't have her memory anymore and none of my relatives have a copy either. The recipe is lost forever.

I miss dairy that doesn't taste anemic - these Floriduh swamp cows munching on kudzu don't cut it. Give me the butter of a cow that's been in the clover. Or cheese from a cow that's eaten fresh, real oat grass. Or good ol' Iowa Anderson-Erikson cottage cheese. I can understand how people would loathe cottage cheese if all they had was the terrible crap they sell down here.
I miss pork tenderloin sandwiches. Anyone from the Midwest can vouch for me.
I miss my grandma's homemade bread, cuz i never have time to make it.
I miss fresh produce that doesn't taste like cardboard. The corn, the tomatoes, and a lot of other produce down here lacks a LOT of flavor I grew up with with home gardens. Mmmm, fresh green beans!
And in Iowa, the Danish bakeries are legendary. I miss almond kugel and OMG Dutch letters!

Oh my! Schmacko's kind of a corn-fed country boy deep down. I can just see you with some bib overalls siting on the front pouch widdling away on...something. That's kinda hot.

CHeerwine got addicted to the stuff when we lived in winston-salem @ starrry--say a prayer to St. Anthony for that lost recipe! It never fails for me! daisy--sheer deprivation has forced me to get over my longing for maryland crabs! Although every May when they come into season i do get very strong cravings! jen

The small Indiana town I lived in had a little corner cafe. They had a dish called Beef Manhatten (sp?). Nothing fancy, just meat, potatoes, and bread, but mmmmmmmmm. I've tried to replicate it at home, but its just not the same.

Oh, I have some fancy-schmancy tastes, too, corene, that make my family blush for me getting all uppity. But, yeah, there's nothing like fresh food. And I wish I had a pair of bib overalls - I got to wear them for an internship I had and I loved 'em. Problem is, they're sort of out of fashion. LMAO - remember bib shortalls?

Well my hubby is heading back to Oz in 4 days, so we're going to stock up on ALL kinds of foods HE'S been missing! Maybe I can sneak in a few things that I love. My daughter is just going to pig out on butterfish! She just can't get enough of the stuff, and will eat it until she's sick, I swear!!

@silent - Everytime I go to Buffalo I stop in the airport and pick some up. It's so good, though most my friends in DC find it a little odd.
Aunt Rosie's Loganberry juice - though Wegman's has it sometimes down here.
Buffalo wings- Sorry the rest of country doesn't do it right.
Beef on Weck- so good and salty and I love horseradish on my beef
Mighty Taco and Bocce's Pizza - good food
The Ultimate Food I miss is Anderson's Frozen Custard - cinnamon flavor. I track it down at the different locations in the Buffalo area and am not satified with my visit home unless I have some.
