I was at the "Confessions of a Matchmaker" thread at TelevisionWithoutPity.com, and someone brought up sponge candy. It's a delectable chocolate candy that's light and crunchy (I heard baking soda is part of what makes it that way). I thought I'd easily find it when I moved to DC from Buffalo, but alas, no. (I can order it online from Watson's Chocolatier, which I used to go to when I lived in Buffalo.)
Also---Sahlen's hot dogs! Pork hot dogs are great. They're salty and hold flavor better. These DC beef hot dogs are okay, but not as great as a Sahlen's.
What are your hometown faves?

In Youngstown we have things that everyone around here automatically thinks all people have. We have cookie tables at weddings (I found out this is not the norm at a few out of town weddings I have been too) and wedding soup is a staple. We are also known for our brier hill pizza. Personally, I know I could never live without Wedgewood pizza a local place.

No one in Northern Illinois knows how to make biscuits and gravy. IHOP is the only place that even serves them, but they are a pitiful replacement.

I can't stand pizza, but I do enjoy Handel's ice cream the few occasions that I stop back in Y-town.

I carted home a cardboard suitcase of White Castle cheeseburgers to NH from NYC in June for Mr. OC who is from St. Louis and misses them terribly. Guadaloupe at the Whitey's on 8th Ave. was delighted to make them for me that moning at 7 a.m. And they stunk up the car the whole way home.

Fausnaughts. No one outside of Lancaster County knows what they are or on what day to make them.

When I was a kid we used to go every Saturday afternoon (after the movies) to eat at the White Castle drive-in in St. Paul, MN. Years later, I could get them frozen at a supermarket in Brookline, MA. But in MAINE? ? Not a chance in hell. Also, I miss booya (that's how we kids spelled it)... A homemade German stew/soup that was made at our local church picnics at St. Agnes parish in St. Paul. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, the good ol' days! iami

Yuck, I hate White Castle.
When I was living in Califorinia I missed tons of things: Devil Dogs Good Pizza Good Chinese Food Friendly's Watermelon Sherbert Good Bagels
In fact, I had all of the above (except pizza) sent to me by a friend while I was pregnant.
