just the fact that there's been zero buzz since the beginning of this "40th anniversary" year is a very bad sign. fans that have stuck by them for 40 years are getting what? spotify playlists? big deal... the way the band and management are treating this supposed special year is a little offensive frankly. No such thing as 40th with Covid happening...

What planet are you on? It’s certainly not Planet Earth. There’s a worldwide mutating virus that’s killed close to three million people, closed down most world economies and virtually all international travel. Where I live we’ve been in and out of lockdown since last March with limited freedoms for a few months last summer. With all that going on I think it’s absolutely right it’s put on hold. There’s nothing to celebrate right now. Things will get better and then we can revisit.

He is understandably frustrated with the lack of output. As I am. Music is not limited to just Duran Duran. If you’ve been paying attention to the threads there are hundreds and hundreds of artists from my / our era who have been releasing new music, releasing interesting bundled physical items and performing lock down live shows. Have you not read them? What planet are YOU on? It is absolutely NOT right that the world stops. There is ALWAYS something to celebrate otherwise there would be depression on a much wider scale than there is now. We’ve ALL been affected by lockdown. I was on furlough for 6 months. You do something to keep your mind busy! Just let people sound off. Please.

I wish things were different but this blows!

Red Hot Chilli Peppers & U2 both had big plans for 2020 but it’s all put on hold. DD always said they would celebrate their birthday with new music and a tour. The historical boxed set wasn’t factored in for 2021. Even if they changed their mind on that and decided to move ahead then it would take around 18 months to get it out. These things take time. As someone whose been furloughed for over a year now I’d love new releases as well but I fully appreciate their situation. I turned 50 this year. We had plans to get all the family together from all over and then go on a foreign holiday. Guess what? It’s not happening. Everyone was disappointed but they accepted it and everyone is just glad we are all well.

I’ve ordered so much music by acts that could be deemed, right or wrongly, less worthy than DD. I have more respect for an artist when they need to think outside of the box to make ends meet, than perhaps an artist who can depend on royalties and streaming from a big selling catalogue. If DDHQ had any forethought and weren't so dammed irritatingly laid back, there would be something to look forward to by now. I’m not talking necessarily about new music, I’m suggesting DD40. The band DO NOT need to tour. They need to get on board the Townsend Music train and join a host of reputable music peers and revisit their big albums. TM have made a fortune from me this year alone. We are now into the fourth month of 2021 and we’ve had diddly squat (nothing). And I put that blame squarely at the door of that rabble at Magus and the person behind PR (who says she’s not responsible for - but clearly is). And that’s fine with Simon Le Bon. Crazy some would say.

Crazy some would say. The bigger the band the harder it is to adapt. That’s why I compared DM and RHCP. Okay DD aren’t on that scale but it’s a similar situation. They aren’t the cottage industries a lot of these heritage bands are nowadays. I know McCartney put an album out but he’s a unique one man band who can do it all himself. I expect a boxed set is planned. It was probably going to drop after the new album cycle had died down. Having been on different labels, having had different band members and songwriters along with legal cases, getting something in place will be a massive undertaking. It’s not the kind of thing you can speed up.

There are movies being shot, TV shows...and DD can't finish mixing an album...they are just using this as an excuse at this point, I'm afraid
F@kin Sigue Sigue Sputnik released a boxset last year! Which is even sadder, for a moment, it made me more excited than a possible new DD album lol
for an anniversary, I don't really care for new music or a tour....many fans wanted a boxset, with unreleased stuff....and this anniversary was something EVERYONE KNEW WAS COMING UP...like, that poll that was being made? that was ages ago

I don’t follow them closely, but have bands like DM and U2 been stringing their fans along with promises and then postponing, postponing, postponing? If Duran are on an extended break or hiatus, acknowledge that instead of talking about all the imminent excitement. When the shows this year were announced, it looked very unlikely they would happen, most of us knew. Yet they were announced and postponed. I’m not blaming Duran for the pandemic, but one would have to be living under a rock to say they’ve adjusted to this new reality.

Another word I’d use would be ‘unaccounted’. They’re clearly not meeting the needs of the business. I’d be hung, drawn and quartered by my boss if I didn’t show some flexibility towards my work or failed to appease my customers by going the extra mile. Isn’t that the same for a performing artist? Don’t piss your fans off too much or you might just lose them.
