Plus, in the case of authentic first generation hard copies, you'd still have them even if you share the contents in mp3 form! ;D That's an important point right there. Would the "authentic first generation hard copy" really lose any value if mp3's are made from it? It's kind of like comparing the original 'Mona Lisa' painting to the pictures you can find of it online. We can see what it looks like for free, maybe even print off a crappy little copy, but it's still nowhere near as good a quality or as valuable as the original.

Yeah, that was pretty much the point I was trying to make. Letting other people hear and see it probably isn't going to hurt it's value at all.

The rarest I have is the 1 minute snippet of the early Planet Earth demo that figital included in a podcast. Far superior to the demo on the reissue and a shame if it never makes it out of captivity. Wha Wha What?! I've never heard of this particular demo! Is it different than the Manchester Square demo? I'd love to have a listen. Is there any possible way you would consider sharing for those who have never heard it?

LOL. in the interest of laziness, here it is... figital.libsyn.com/webpage/duran-duran-in-review-october-1st-2010the parts you want to hear start at about the 15 minute mark. and i will pretty much guarantee that you've never, ever heard these before. enjoy! p.s. i honestly have no idea where these are from. they literally fell onto my desk a few years ago. i sat on them long enough to make sure the person who gave them to me wouldn't get in any shit and then i let 'em fly!

Absolutely fantastic! The new Grail of Duran Duran music, the full versions of these cuts NEEDS to see the light of day! I'd wager these might just be the oldest recordings in existence that include Simon. Perhaps these are the real "EMI Demos" unlike the sad jokes of boots floating around passing themselves off as such! I've learned that John's playing is the real timeline marker on the earliest stuff - his playing is extremely rudimentary on the 1979 Andy Wickett demos, with none of the adventurous note choice, finger dexterity and ghost note subtlety of the first album, by which time a clear and accomplished sounding style had nearly fully crystalized (obviously even more so by the time of RIO). The bass on these - especially on Faster Than Light and Sound of Thunder - sounds to me about half to 3/4 of the way between the 1979 and first album playing. He's got the template for where he wanted to go in terms of melodic moving bass lines, but the delivery is still somewhat rudimentary, without the little details of muted ghost note technique he was soon to develop! I wonder if these were recorded before or after signing with EMI? I'd bet before. Who knows, maybe this is the session that yielded the versions of Planet Earth and Anyone Out There that were going to be released on their own Tritec label until they signed with EMI and abandoned that project! An amazing find...time for everyone to dedicate themselves to finding out where and when these were recorded, to find the complete recordings, and to SHARE them among the fans! ps Thanks Derek for sharing this gem and nice job on the podcasts (my first time hearing them). Extreme jealousy over your Roger Taylor '83 Tama kit...congrats! That still to this day is my favorite looking drum setup, with the toms all highly angled as he had them (and you've kept them, by the looks of your video). Now you just have to get some Simmons pads and octobans (plus some rototoms for good measure even though I don't think he used them on the Sing Blue Silver tour) and you'll be all set for any Duran drum emergency!

Please put forth the (now likely) US$2,000 this tape will cost, and I will be happy to post them online for free. The same goes for anyone else. Ballsack!

I would bet, if the tape of these complete recordings is in fact out there, that we would have no trouble gathering donations to get the $$ to convince someone to upload them. Or, we could be patient and maybe, if they exist in JT or Nick's vaults, they'll get released one day and we won't have to pay to have someone "share their ball"...or rather, we'll be able to pay the actual artists, the only ones who really deserve to make money off of their work.
