The rarest I have is the 1 minute snippet of the early Planet Earth demo that figital included in a podcast. Far superior to the demo on the reissue and a shame if it never makes it out of captivity. Somebody has a set of demos auctioned off by Andy about 10 years ago... can only guess what might be on there... Don't Look Back anyone? I imagine someone has the complete "Everything and Nothing Changes" session which would be nice to hear the actual song and not just the studio chatter! I'm glad I'm not the only one that knows about Don't Look Back. Between that track and Reportage those would be beyond awesome to hear. Also, there is suppose to be a heavier sounding version of SATRT out there since the album was recorded three times. So many unheard Duran gems out there!

Not that rare, but not very well known, the 5:16 min instrumental (!) version of "Medazzaland" credited to Nick Rhodes only. It was available on some obscure sampler celebrating unreleased tracks by the masters of electronic, ambient and progressive music.
Apart from that, I consider any of the Japanese tracks JT played on pretty rare, as well as "And There Are Lots And Lots Of Ants" by The Heads with JT on vocals. The song is not that rare as it was available for download on TTP, but I have the original Radioactive Records CD Sampler it came from, of which only 300 or so were made.

Anyone care to share those gems? I am missing out on a lot. I didn't have a computer when a lot of this was all out there and only learned of much of it. I simply haven't had the chance to catch up.
And as for the Sister Sledge recording, I ALWAYS heard it was Andy. If you are checking this, I would say use a more reliable source than Wikipedia. A lot of inaccuracies are on there.

It was definitely Andy & Simon on Sister Sledge. They are credited on the album I have in my collection.

It was definitely Andy & Simon on Sister Sledge. They are credited on the album I have in my collection. I stand corrected ! In the 80s, when I first heard it off the radio, it was announced that it was John, so I always took that as true. MissNovemberTues: you're right, wiki is not always accurate. I wanted to check the 'net to confirm John or Andy, and that was the 1st link that came up. Now I am really curious and will look further !

Does anyone remember the story around this track? I thought only Simon was involved in this one from some kind of Nile Rodgers project? I'm thinking it's mislabeled since Andy is listed. I'm wondering if the person who posted it got this confused with the Sister Sledge song which is indeed Simon and Andy. Unless Andy is actually is involved in this track and I just don't know??? I thought this was done in the late 1990s. Either way it's a good track:

the thing about that PE snippet is that is all there is out there (to my knowledge) the full song never surfaced/leaked as the person who originally had it wanted like 1500 pounds for a full copy and when a band of us tried to re-locate it so we could try and make a deal for a group to try and buy it so we could liberate it, the person was nowhere to be found. That's a real shame, it's likely they eventually found a buyer who is keeping it to themselves. I had never heard this podcast before, so thank you x1000 figital for posting the link! What a revelation! It's great to hear the alternate early vocal melodies and I actually prefer the sound of Faster Than Light over the released version. In this one case only, I think £1500 is actually worth it and would pay that amount if I was working full time. I wouldn't pay anywhere near that for anything else, but this is about as close as it gets to the birth of the band (unless there are rehearsal jams recorded from their first few weeks together). I mean, you could spend $2500 (£1500) for a vacation, or buy a piece of history! Now if I was to pay more than $500 for something, I would probably want to keep it to myself for a while to justify the expense. I don't think anyone would pay that and post it online right away. But after about a year I'd get it out there for others to hear. I've uploaded a few things years ago that no one had put online before or since, one of which was used more than once on bootleg CDs. I never gave a thought to hoarding it to myself, and didn't mind the bootlegs. *If* the original person ever reappears with the demos for sale, I'd gladly pay up to $200 towards a pool to buy it. If 10 people paid $200 each and 1 person paid $500 for possession of the master, then it would only be fair for the pool to keep it to themselves for a while. That way, more people would be likely to contribute and you might end up with 40 people paying $50 each. But the idea would be that after 6 months or so, the music would be freely shared. It's for the greater good of the fanbase, and it would be a tragedy if material like this was lost to the hands of one person or a select few who would take it to their graves!

I actually agree with something like that, the idea being that eventually, within a relatively short period of time it gets out for others to hear, if not for certain financial situations at the moment I'd chip in for something like that too with the agreement that in a year or so we could release it. Enough people get to together and it's not such a huge expense too.
